Hey everyone. I'm new to Smashboards, and new to the Smash competitive scene. I have been playing since Melee came out (though not consistently or with any intention of being the best).

I was wondering if there is anyone who can coach me through the basic things I need to think about when I'm playing competitively. Basically, I want to know what goes through a pro's head during a match.

Thanks! :bubblebobble:

This will be my first year of playing Smash competitively too, so I'm looking forward to advice for playing competitively too.

What I'd suggest doing is starting with the basics of the basis. Familiarize yourself with the terminology like Forward Smash, Up-tilt etc. That will make it easier to communicate with people when talking about characters at local events or if you're communicating online. Next would be to start watching competitive Smash videos. Watch previous tournies from previous versions of the game, subscribe to channels who upload tournaments often and learn from their plays - what they do good, what mistakes they make etc. Adopt a playstyle, and then find a character who fits that playstyle which is right for you.

I'm kinda in the same boat as you man.
With this being a new game some of the strategy are going to change as people adapt to the new mechanics. You should still be working on learning the spacing and attack options for your main. Be able to short hop 100% of the time.

You can be creative right now as everyone is trying to learn the new combos and follow ups for their different attacks.

Best of luck to you

Well I know the basic terminologies, and I watch tons of tournies and I'm subscribed to tons of Smash content (including Smashboards, which I read A LOT!)

I really am looking for what kind of things go through a players head during the match like spacing, mind-games, and predicting the opponent's moves. I suppose it all really comes from practice, but some guidance would be great!
