I really enjoy doubles, especially since smash is the only mainstream fighting game I know where playing with more than 2 players is both possible and encouraged. (There's that mode in the original MvC for the dreamcast but I don't think it got off the ground).

Problem is I usually play doubles in for glory mode where team attack is off, so my first tournaments with team attack on I didn't do so well. I'm working on finding partners to practice in with friends mode so I can get a better feel for it, but are there just general strategies that would help me? Thanks :)

A popular strategy in For Glory (or any other non-team-attack setting) is to have both players rush someone, or have one rush while the other shoots. This can work passably there, but obviously you'll get in each other's way if you can hit each other. Typically people fix that issue more or less by breaking off into two fights happening in different parts of the stage. That generally works until one team is down a player, in which case the strategy shifts a bit. Typically a good doubles team will have one character good for pressure, and one good for kills (for example, Sheik to pressure, Ganondorf to kill). It's the goal of the pressure to rack up damage until their teammate can kill the opponent, and then toss the fool into range.

That sort of strategy can work from the get-go, too, but it takes a bit of coordination and using character picks based on team strengths instead of individual preference.

Of course, another option is to do silly character-ability synergies like Game&Watch and Samus/Mewtwo (both full charge B moves fill the bucket to full), or Ness with a projectile user, etc. It takes some caution, but done right you can do some really silly things that aren't possible (or at least not simple) without Friendly Fire.
