Throw combos on floaties?

I've been in the lab and it seems to me that a lot of floaties are really vulnerable to the dthrow -> usmash combo at certain percents.

Downthrow has been traditionally used against fastfallers to start a techchase scenario on stages with platforms, but it seems that floaties will bounce up above Pikachu, and can easily be hit with an upsmash.

I haven't done extensive research on it, but the combo seems to work at around 55-65~% on Peach, around 70~% on Marth, and very low percents on Jigglypuff.

I'm certain that people will be able to jump out of it before they're forced to tech at the higher percents that the combo works, so it may only work at the powest % possible.

I'm also pretty sure it's di'able if you di hard right or left, but it could work as a mixup, especially if you're near a ledge, and they expect you to dthrow/fthrow offstage.

Dthrow is meh as they can easily DI it and hit you before you can do anything, but if they manage to not DI and know anything about dthrow its a good thing to throw out(?). It'd be better to uthrow when on stage to keep em above you and fthrow/bthrow when near the edge for edgeguard purposes.

Now if you actually want to combo floaties, pick falcon :)

Well it was worth looking in to I guess. Maybe my friends just don't study Pikachu whatsoever lol. Good to know though.

If you're at %s where you can't get anything off Uthrow on really floaty characters, like Peach and Puff, Fthrow is probably your best bet, especially against Puff. Like Dthrow it won't combo into anything, but it puts them in a really awkward position to avoid a Nair. If they jump out of hitstun or do nothing instead of attacking right away they'll get hit. Peach has the anti-fun Nair you need to watch out for but it works well against Puff in my experience.

Otherwise just go for Uthrow and sadly accept you often won't get much besides maybe a 2-3% up air and some stage control. Against floaties I try to hit with late Nair more as that gives you some juicy followups.

I think the only true combo with dthrow might be dthrow-> nair on fox/falco above like 400%... but at that point you're probably doing something wrong. Plus, backthrow kills at that percent anyway.

But yeah, DIing straight away and mashing jump or teching if you hit the ground will get every character out of pikachu's dthrow, sadly.
