Smash Wii U Thoughts on several controller options?

I'm trying to decide on which controller will best fit me in Smash, so I am currently considering purchasing the PDP Fight Pad, HORI Battle Pad, or wait for a restock in GameCube Controller Adapters. I have been playing Smash since the 64 days and of course, been using the GameCube controller for Melee, Brawl, and PM. My options on hand at the moment are the Wii U GamePad. Pro Controller, Wii Mote, and the Nunchuk. The GamePad is pretty good but it's a tad heavy for me and of course, very wide with low battery life (3-4 hours). The Pro is a great controller... but it lacks something that the GameCube Controller has, that being the C-Stick/Left Analog placement. I find myself touching the Left Analog by accident when playing Smash which really bothers me and the placement of the ABXY is a bit too low for my hands. The overall feel of the controller feels great in the hands and it seems pretty responsive to me. I enjoy playing Hyrule Warriors or Mario Kart 8 with it than Smash due to the button placement. The battery life is sublime compared to my other products, in my opinion. I probably don't have to explain the troubles of using the Wii Mote/Nunchuk since they should be apparent.

But TL;DR, Anyone actually have the HORI Battle Pad or PDP Fight Pad and would recommend it to me? They are the closest to the GameCube Controller but they are wireless and likely have a decent amount of input lag. I also heard the GameCube Controllers have input lag as well considering it's connected to the adapter rather than directly into the system. I prefer wireless controllers since they are less messy, but I would be okay with the GameCube Controller since it's ideal for Smash.

If you prefer wireless and the Gamecube layout (which I personally strongly prefer just because the most relevant buttons are symmetrical to the most-relevant directional control), you could always grab the adapter plus a Wavebird. You'd be dealing with somewhat more input lag there, plus the battery life issues.

That said, I haven't used the Battle Pad or the Fight Pad, but I seem to recall seeing good reviews for the Battle Pad elsewhere on these forums.

Well it's good for people who likes to experiment outside the gamecube controller. But personally I prefer ( the air) the game cube controller.

Skip the PDP Fight Pads. They are cheap and poorly designed, IMO. I bought one from gamestop, and returned it after using it for one session. Buttons feel cheap, and the joysticks were too long for me to use comfortably. (Gamecube controller snob here, though, so take it with a grain of salt.)

Maybe I should just suck it up and continue using the Pro until GameCube Controllers start to be more openly available. <.<

We all know what the best controller is.

:troll:

But in all seriousness, go with the Pro controller until the GC adapter restocks.

Personally, I don't like the GC Controller too much compared to the other control options available. The Pro controller is my favorite as the triggers are digital one presses and don't need the unneeded springy triggers that the GC Controller has. The right analog stick is awkward at first but after awhile you get used to it and perform aerial attacks very easily since the jump button is right by the analog stick. I also like the modern design to it like a Xbox 360 Controller.

I personally don't have the Hori battle pad, but I heard it's like an actual GC Controller minus the springy triggers. I'd like to get one in the long run, but right now my PDP Wii Fight Pad is a pretty good alternative as well. It's basically the classic controller pro version of a gamecube controller. I like it for that reason, because before I used the Classic Controller Pro for Project M.

It all depends on preference, really. If you are decided on getting the gamecube controller asap, the Hori pad may be your thing. If you are willing to wait a couple weeks for the restock of the adapter and have the true gamecube controller, then wait. If you are willing to try something new for a new style of controls, then adapt to the Pro controller or get the Fight Pad.

if you are going to tournaments then the gc controller is sadly the only way.

I recommend either the Pro Controller or waiting for the Gamecube adapter.

I've been using the Hori Battle Pad as my min controller for a few weeks. It's good, the buttons on the right side of the controller feel identical to the Gamecube controller.

The cons have to do with the analog sticks. They seem to be more sensitive than what I'm used to. I'm not sure if it's just the newness of the controller or what, but I sometimes do smash attacks or sashes when I meant to tilt or walk.

It's kind of awkward these days... I feel like I have more control with the Circle Pad on my 3DS than I do with the Hori or my Wii U Pro Controller so take what I say with a grain of salt.

I have the Gamecube adapter, but I didn't buy a new Gamecube controller, so all of my Gamecube controllers are broken in.

Has anyone had a similar issue with the analog sticks on a new Gamecube controller?
