I personally think its a terrible mechanic and don't understand why it came back from brawl, Is basically a free spike if you and you're opponent are trying to recover at the same time and it always seems accidental, it usually kills because it gimps jumps and has you in a stunned state while falling you wont make it back unless you have an amazing recovery. Its also hard to see coming because even the person who did it ( including me ) seems surprised by it.

please share your thoughts

I don't see the problem with it. You have to be literally on top of your opponent to do it, and at that point they have the option to up-air. Even then if you can get that off you could have gotten a down air probably too, which would be a more reliable choice.

It's a mechanic by which every character has a meteor. That's the only thing I like about it. Otherwise, it opens up for certain notorious infinites.

Though on the upair part, a lot of characters in a position to be footstooled cannot afford the endlag of an upair, and unless the enemy footstooling is at very high percent, will not benefit from a trade in that situation.

My problem wasn't that people use it as a gimping tactic it was that the game artificially decides a KO because it puts you in such a vulnerable state for way too long while giving the person who did it an extra jump even if they used all of them and since the jump is instant it seems like it takes priority over most U-Airs.

Its a mechanic that definitely didn't need to be in the game

Not gonna lie, I don't really mind getting Footstool'd (and I usually play Peach so when I'm floating it doesn't even effect me), but whenever I do it, it's on accident and I feel a little bad for it.

Does footstooling Yoshi while he's is jumping put him in a helpless state in this game?

Footstooling is perfectly :nessmelee: with me. I find it pretty amusing.

I like it. Mostly because it's amusing when it happens out of nowhere.

The game artificially decides a KO, yeah, not like you need to be on top of your enemy and press the button to make them die.

I KO'd a Link last night by accidentally footstooling him while we were both recovering.

I'd say it's a pretty good feature :shades:

Yeah that is an artificial way because at least with an attack it has a start up animation meaning that I have a small reaction time in response to seeing what they're going to do, but foot stooling is instant after you press the jump button and even if guess that it might happen there isnt anyway to meteor cancel out of it because it outs you in a stunned animation.

Most people here seem to do it more or less by accident so why keep this mechanic? I personally hate it because it ruins some intense off stage battles because someone jumps higher than you, it wouldn't be that bad if it didn't gimp recoveries

Well, I play Kirby, so footstooling is completely different for me than other people. I use footstooling as a viable way to get kills, and try to combo into it. D-Air to FF to Footstool is usually a guaranteed kill.

^ This. I actually started a thread on footstooling's viability a while ago, and I was saying character like Kirby, Jigglypuff, and Villager could use this as a decent way to kill.

Footstooling is pretty predictable as long as you understand your opponent's character as well as your own(see above). If you're below the stage and they don't have a good vertical KO option, there's really not much else they could be trying to do. Also, the meteor cancel point is a bit null, since most characters have a set amount of frames until they can do the cancel, so unless the character has a really short set amount of frames, or insanely good recovery, they'll probably die anyways. Probably, anyways. I don't know too much about this.

As for most people doing it by accident, that doesn't necessarily mean people don't do it on purpose. You salty?

I'm also not just mad about being the victim of it, there are actually times where I will be trying to set up a spike with Falcon and I'll usually need to run off of the ledge and then do a short hop in to Dair but instead I footstool them and since they usually have a great recovery it destroys a kill opportunity.

Yeah you're super right I am salty and I do understand that the purpose is to K'O the opponent but I can't help but feel that the game would only be better without said mechanic. I've never seen someone use it to set up a combo before, I've only experienced it while edge fighting and it always leads to someone being footstooled by one of us just trying to recover

Only part I have a problem with is that a foot-stool, correct me if I'm wrong, can't be teched.

That's the idea I got when the ZSS infinite on Robin floated around everywhere, anyway.

Not too sure how "competitively viable" foot-stooling is, but it sure is fun. I kind of got out of my seat and started shouting when I got this kill. So, yeah...
