I don't get to play very often and most of my training is at tournaments.

But empty pivots look very niche for fox and ics.

I play ics/pichu and was wonderi ng how well it works for anyone else

is better with characters with a good dash distance, and good ground moves, like captain falcon, (the best pivot game in my opinion) marth, sheik and samus, with some other is not so usefull or just useless.

It's really powerful for Luigi, and several player are starting to implement it. This is one of the threads in which it's discussed: http://smashboards.com/threads/pivot-out-of-wavedash-is-this-good.390384/

It's a good movement option in general; it lets you laglessly stop after a dash, which is obviously useful regardless of your character. I feel like it's similar to shield dropping in that it's useful while somewhat difficult to execute at first and barely anyone uses it, but eventually it will become standard.
