This strikes me as odd... a story kind of odd...

So I was browsing through the update pictures, when I find these

Both of these could be hinting at something story-like, but each has their own non-story explanation, but what's the fun if we don't speculate a little bit?

1ST IMAGE:
Why It could be not story- This could simply be Lucina breaking a smash ball, which would turn the screen grey for an instant. Simple enough.
BUT WAIT!!!- Lucina appears quite idle and non-attackey, and Luigi is on the ground, also quite non-attackey. The grey could be an intensity thing in a cutscene, or even a smash ball being broken in the scene.

2ND IMAGE:
Why it could be not story- This could be a picture taken in the trophy positioning mode. 'Nuff said.
HOLD ON!!!- It's easy enough to see how this could be a story mode scene. The Blue Falcon and an arwing in the same space? (the Pilotwings island, which is a strange enough choice for a trophy mode) and also if that WERE a trophy of Captain Falcon's final smash, shouldn't he be a bit more intense? Or if that's his basic trophy, why is the Blue Falcon even there? And if it's supposed to be there, shouldn't he be out of it to show his beautiful self off?

At most we will get an adventure mode similar to Melee. With Minor cutscenes.

At the very least, these may show gameplay elements not yet shown.

In the inbetween, these may come from a currently unreleased in game video (beginning credits maybe?)

There won't be a story mode like Brawl's, but maybe they improve in visuals and storytelling the event matches. In that case, I'd say the first one is "sideshow vs. sideshow" and the second one is "Falcon vs Falcon".

The first picture is just Lucina standing over Luigi with a smash ball. Maybe they took the picture a frame before her final smash actually started, causing it to turn gray.

The second picture is literally just the entrance animations. Cap coming out of the blue falcon, Fox jumping out the arwing, stuff like that.

Honestly, I find the fact that Sakurai is taking pictures of the intro animations odd. Has he done that before?

Well, Sakurai did say there would be no story mode with CGI cutscenes. They could just have small cutcenes with the in-play models.

Imagine if they teamed up and rode a Samurott. Most death-starey event possible in all of history.
