we should have the option to switch between stock and time…and customize how much stock or time. the winner of the previous round should have control over the settings for the current round...

If you mean with freinds, I find it's easy to just ask everyone to agree on a ruleset (if you can communicate with them). With anyone the rules change depending on what mode you chose.

Unless you're playing for fun, yes you can. If you want 4-player stock you're out of luck though, but you still have 1v1 if you really need it.

Wait, doesn't free-for-all FG also have stocks? Please correct me if I'm wrong (which I probably am since I don't play online :p)

Oh, that's strange.
The reason for that is that the game is supposed to keep everyone involved active during the entirety of the match. If 4 players were playing with stock, and there was no way of communicating, it will presumably be pretty boring for those waiting for the match to end after they've lost all their stocks.

Of course it could be solved with it having a time limit, but this is what I think Sakurai had in mind when working on the online modes.

so you alienate ppl who prefer stock (the VAST majority of the smash community prefer stock…even in tournaments), to dictate a time limit? why not give the option?? so the ppl who prefer time limits, go to that mode, and the ones who prefer stock, go to stock

He isn't alienating anyone, just telling his opinion and Sakurai's possible reasoning.

My own opinion is that a online stock mode would be nice for the game. The more options the merrier. But Sakurai is the type that prioritizes his design philosophies over much else, and from what I can understand, the reasoning I mentioned in my previous post is a fair analysis of what he wanted online to be.

I myself am not affected much by it though as I prefer Time For Fun 4-player with lots of broken items.
