So withholding information on unlockable characters, something i'm pretty sure has been done since the beginning of the entire smash series, doesn't make sense?

But when Brawl was released in Japan, wasn't there a specific section on the site where you could see all of the unrevealed characters? That way, people in the rest of the world could choose if they want to see the new characters or not. The games already leaked, so it's not like it'll add fuel to the fire.

If anything, it'll be nice to see the official HD renders on the site.

Because they don't update on the weekends. I imagine starting tomorrow we'll have the brawl thing of a page with a spoiler warning and then HD renders of the rest of the cast.

aside of that, i mean for brawl they actually had spoilers options, and seriously, whoever doesn't want to be spoiled about a video game nowadays has to be under a rock with no internet, friends or even technology access xD

There has not been a chance for a PotD since the game was released. That'll change in a few hours, of course, but for the time being, it is what it is.
