So I've been wanting to get a lot more advanced in Melee, but I've just been really struggling with wavedashing and shuffling. I got shuffling down after a lot of training, but wavedashing never worked well for me.

I've mained Falco forever, got frustrated because my skill stagnated and switched to Marth, where the same thing happened.

I tried out Sheik, and lo and behold, I could wavedash whenever I wanted to, without even thinking about it. Suddenly my skill just jumped incredibly, and I've got a lot of control over my matches now.

Out of curiousity, I tried Fox, who I've always had a difficult time with handling (I could never wavedash either), and miraculously the same thing happened with him as it did Sheik.

With Fox I can waveshine and everything, and it makes his character so much better just being able to do that (in addition to traditional wavedashing).

This really had no point, but I just think learning to wavedash with Sheik made a night and day difference in how I play the game, and now I can finally play Fox well.

It's just a matter of learning. Each character has different timing between the jump and airdodge. Sheik and Fox happen to have very similar timing.

not similar. the same. in fact, there are only 5 different timings, and bowser is one of them. the rest fall into 4 different timings.

yeah my fingers seem to fit best into the Group two jump times.
I can wavedash almost perfectly with doc who is the only group 2 char I play.
I also play fox (group 1) gannondorf (group 4) and I main falco(group 3).
It takes me a couple WDs to get used to each character every time I switch, but I never even have to think about Doc's because group 2 just fits my hands so well.

It seems like you're hands like group 1 which would imply you would naturally adapt to the WDs of Fox / Ice Climbers / Kirby / Pichu / Pikachu / Samus / Sheik.

(This info is from M2K's statistics list.
