Question . Are there more players/higher skill level players on the WiiU? I'd know the WiiU version has prettier graphics, but I don't want to spend that money on a WiiU, if the majority of players or all of the high skilled players actually play on the 3DS.

Question #2-Do they have a mic system set up to talk to other players? Also, if you happen to fight a particularly good random player can you send friend requests, or is it like the 3DS where after one of you leaves, you never see them again?

Question #3-Is there a major lag issue like there was for Brawl on the Wii? This was the main thing that turned me off of Brawl...

Sorry for all the questions and thanks

#1. 3Ds limits you to the 3Ds controls so most people play on Wii U but that isn't the only reason people play on Wii U instead.

#2. You can add people on Wii U but there's no voice chat. (I don't think)

#3. NERP.

1.Most people play on the 3ds. There's almost no 3ds gameplay.

2.Idk

3.Occasionally there's lag, but unless you have terrible internet, there's rarely lag

1. Definitely higher skilled players on the wii u, but don't use FG as a reference.
2. No Mic system, real no reason to have one.
3. There will ALWAYS be lag on a peer to peer connection. Definitely try out anther's ladder to find people closer to you, to reduce lag.

again, FOR GLORY SHOULD NOT BE USED TO JUDGE THE WII U VERSION.

There's mic chat in friendlies online. Also to add players, go into your friends list choose the recent players tab

1. I would say so as the Wii U version allows access to the crutch-controller, the Gamecube controller, even with the C-stick nerfed.

2. The Wii U Gamepad has a built-in mic that let's you communicate with your registered friends in the lobby and in the waiting room. In short, if you want to communicate between matches and don't mind the bad mic quality, stick to playing matches with friends. Otherwise, go third-party software. You can send friend requests by the push of a button on the match results screen.

3. I admit, the online lag is significantly reduced and more moderated after Brawl's but Nintendo is still stuck in the 90s with Internet play in general.

How did the C Stick get nerfed?

Also I guess I misspoke on question 3. I meant is the latency about as good or better than the 3DS version? If so, then I'd actually consider that great!!

The Wii U WiFi play is way better than 3DS or Brawl. You can add recent players to your friends, and can chat with friends before and after matches. As for lag/latency, my connection in the Wii U version is usually at least as good as the 3DS version, and that's without the recommended wired connection. While latency will always be dependent on who you are fighting due to the P2P system, my connection is good enough that I only rarely experience latency beyond the inherent online delay. If online play is your thing, I heartily recommend the Wii U version. Especially with Tourneys now available only on Wii U.

As for the skill of your opponents, the pros definitely all play the Wii U version, but the online community in For Glory is not super appreciably better than the 3DS version's community, IMO. The skill varies so much in both versions that an average is tough to estimate. Maybe the Wii U players are ever so slightly better on average. I have gotten spanked in several 1v1 FG tourney matches, though I haven't played enough tourneys to tell if good players really are congregating there or if I'm unlucky.

#1) Wii U and 3DS both have their good and bad players. From experience, 3DS has had better players, but keep in mind I play the 3DS much much more. The skill level varies in both systems, so it shouldn't be a deal-breaker for you when deciding to buy it.

#2) I believe there is voice chat when you battle a friend, but don't take my word for it. In For Glory, you can change your name tag before and after battle to somewhat chat with a random opponent. There's no room for full on conversations, but I guess you could say things like "Nice!" and "Good game!"

#3) The only time major lag exists is when an opponent is using bad wifi and somehow manages to connect to the network. It often makes battling tedious and painful. Lag is omnipresent in all online games though, but for some reason it can get really bad in both the Wii U and 3DS version.

Let me know if you have any questions!

I think the Wii U provides a better Smash 4 experience in general.

1- Wii U has better players. I'm certain of this. You won't face as many Little Mac scrubs on the Wii U.

2- You can add them

3- Lag isnt all that different for me between them both.. But interent where I live is terribly bad. Also you can buy the Ethernet adapter for the Wii U and it should make it better.

The C-stick now forces a charging smash attack instead of a quick-input smash, which made the speedier characters very powerful, if not, broken. However, it's still a great use for technical play if you want to release a BAir or UAir without changing your air momentum.

Wait, so if I only flicked the C-Stick it would still do a fully charged smash attack?

Thats...well actually that's not so bad. Since I've exclusively played on the 3DS, I've have no choice but to use the control stick and attack button for smash attacks. This is something would have never become accustomed to with the old gamecube controller and I actually prefer this method. I've heard that the C-Stick can be set to tilts. If so I might try that as long as it doesn't affect my Fairs, Bairs, and Uairs.

It doesn't force full charge, what he means is that in previous games, the c stick never charged so it was always the fastest possible input of a smash attack. Now, holding the c stick can charge the attack, so any hesitation on the input causes it to charge a little.

1. I seldom ever bother with the online modes to be able to answer the question. Thankfully the Brawl taunt party teamers don't surface often, and when they do, you can report them since they are now in violation of the rules.

2. The mic exists in friendlies, but I've never used it since it requires the Gamepad, which I always keep out of range to avoid draining the battery while using GameCube controllers.

3. In my experience, the online lag is significantly worse than it was in Brawl. I know Brawl would get choppy at times, but it never had the input lag that this version suffers, due to its more aggressive matchmakings around the world. The new tourney mode allows you to restrict matches by region, but For Fun / For Glory still do not, unfortunately. I've experienced input lag that delays everything a second or more on an old TV of all things. I spend 99% of my gameplay offline in solo modes, which are thankfully pretty fun and addictive enough, even though I played Brawl mostly online.

Many people play both versions, but the competitive scene is primarily on the U.
There is voice chat during character select/loading if you're playing with friends, but none during the game as this eats bandwidth.
Lag entirely depends on the internet connections of the players involved (for the U). I've had essentially unplayable games online, and I've had games that felt darn near local-speed. Bear in mind, though, the 3DS version even has some lag on local, depending on other wireless interference.

I got a U initially just for Smash and don't regret it one bit. The investment also opens you up to a nice Virtual Console selection, plus some other cool games (present and upcoming).

  • There are more people who play on WiiU. Also, the WiiU version is more popular in regards to the competitive scene. If that's what you mean.
  • They do have a mic system, but it's limited. You can only talk with your friends in private lobbies, and only before matches. During matches, the mic will mute itself. Why? Nintendo logic.
  • Compared to Brawl, Smash 4 seems to have more lag-free matches on a consistent basis. You'll enter some matches here and there which are fairly laggy, but not near as many as Brawl faced.
I highly recommend the game! Smash 3DS is a good game, but in comparison, you can tell the WiiU version the swan song.
