I dont remember which video it was, but near the end, you see link grab zelda shoulder or something and zelda was doing some sort of magic, in the next scene you see bowser dancing with peach. I came to a conclusion that the 4th taunt might be a co-op taunt

Your logic is astounding :psycho:

I like the co-op idea. But it would be hard (or just impossible) to do in a 1v1 match...It should only work with teams.

Ok, here is my logic:

Co-op taunts: Suppose there are 30 characters in the final roster. That makes 465 possible combinations of 2 characters. I.E., a ton of new taunts to program, in a situation that probably doesn't even come up often.

Create-your-own taunt: Hard to implement, unnecessary, etc.

Maybe only certain characters could have them though. Link and Zelda together, Bowser and Peach, Diddy and DK..

It wouldn't make sense to have, say, Metaknight and Pikachu, but Metaknight and Kirby would work, if it is indeed a Co-Op taunt.

i concur, and the characters like snake and sonic would co-op taunts that are most similar to them. Like Snake and Samus

Maxpower, you are overlooking the fact that they could limit the number of co-op taunts by only allowing certain pairs to do it... much like the subspace emissary where certain characters team up with other ones. For example, maybe the only co-op taunt that Mario has is with Luigi (if included).

EDIT: Whoops, didn't realize that somebody already mentioned that :p

Or.... there's two characters doing invidividual taunts next to each other, and the devs picked specific ones that looked well together.

Nah... couldn't be as simple as that.

That just makes it less likely imo. Are people really going to fight as certain duos just to have a "co-op taunt"? More than likely the trailer just showed taunts 2 at a time to a) make the video shorter, and b) make it look cool.

Case in point: when Diddy and Donkey are on screen, Donkey does one of his taunts where he beats his chest. He does the exact same taunt in the HD gameplay video on gametrailers (Pokemon Stadium 2, Samus/Sonic/DK/Diddy)

I don't think these people realise most of Dojo screens/movies are staged.

it dosent even have to be something specific it could just be a generic taunt that every character shares or it could be a couple of random ones programmed in

I, too, was wondering about the function of the fourth direction, with only three taunts. What I figured was that there are two possibilities: 1) it's right on the D-pad, which would mean it's awkward to reach, so he left it out intentionally, or 2) it could have miscellaneous purposes, depending on the mode.

Before I saw in video how assist trophies worked, I was thinking that you could choose an assistant before battle, and picking up a trophy would let you call your assistant with the D-pad. Then I was thinking that it might be possible for Brawl to include a tag-team mode, which lets you switch your character in real-time during a match; this could be done either by having a human-controlled partner, or by letting you actually switch the character you're playing. I think that would've been an interesting mode.

But I don't think there's really any way Sakurai would give the fourth direction a useful function. How would you even use it with the Wiimote?

Co-op taunts are actually a possibility.

In all the impressions I've seen, the two taunts that are duplicates are the side taunts. Perhaps if you hit the taunt button that corresponds to the location of your partner, they will do a co-op taunt.

Most likel;y just with specific characters. Like ones of the same game, or the pairings in the Subspace Emissary

I like the co-op taunt thing (like co-op grabs and intros in DOA), but maybe the 4th could be a stage-specific taunt, like calling in the Star Fox team on Corneria in Melee. Samus could call on Ridley (if he's not a PC) in Norfair, or Snake uses it to call his teammates at Shadow Moses.

I think something you make like you can do in online

make your own text in the box

or maybe there's no taunt there at all

I was hoping that the taunt could be an additional attack, under the right circumstances..
