remember all the talk of 8 vs. 8 battles,

site declares its 4 max, as most suspected, and i doubt online will increase that number due to possible lag/ confusion because of all the action

"What is "Super Smash Bros."?
It's a brawling, battling, action-packed video game that features a varied roster of characters for four-player simultaneous melees!"

FOR SINGLE PLAYER:

for a long time, everyone has went along with the whole "Every character is like a toy battling thing"

while this may or may not be continued or symbolized through the use of figures in the new intro, sakurai brings up another possible theme that might replace all the character's reasonns for being there:

"If you had to call it something, I'd say it's almost like a sport."

since the single player mode will caryy more weight this time around, maybe the backround will be mentioned a little more...

this is a fansite, so i do aknowledge the fact that every can look "too deep" into things, which i may be doing right now, but hey, speculation till the game comes right?

Does it really matter? Everybody's just going to breeze through single player anyways to unlock all of the characters.

if it is beefed up, it could be something really special,

and ppl do care, and what else is there to speculate about:

if were going to breeze through it, why not know more about it anyway?

The sports theme could have an impact on the 1 player mode but I don't see it really changing multiplayer too much.

I played Tales of Symphonia at my friend's house and it has a sort of SSB style battle system, but it's an RPG. Perhaps we can get some sort of basic RPG with those elements? I'm suggesting a 50 hour RPG. Just a three or four hour long one to make single player more fun.

While ToS is a fantastic RPG I wouldn't want to see RPG elements infused into Smash Bros. What were you thinking of including? Set HP limits, levelling up, equippable power ups (EX skills), upgradable weapons? It may be similar in that you attribute attacks to ^ <> V and 2 directions on the C-stick, but to be fair there aren't many similarities beyond that. However I wouldn't mind an original storyline with personal touches added for each character and while I'm not completely against RPG elements for the 1-p mode only, I'd need some pretty solid ideas about exactly what of the RPG genre to add before I'd say it was a good idea.

I meant that it would play like ToS without any of the RPG elements. Or just a few of them. You'd go to some island and find out something is terrorizing people in the forest so you explore it to find DK and then you fight him SSB style. It's still Smash, but you get some 3D exploration outside of battles.

Ah sorry misunderstood, thought you meant by "basic RPG elements" putting RPG elements into Smash rather than an extensive storyline. If there was a proper full-blown personalised storyline for each character (upwards of 4-5 hours around what you said) it might even be worth taking it online with a friend in co-op mode. Overworld exploration in Smash is quite an interesting concept.
