Just yesterday I found what I believe to be a new tech. Recently I have change my controls to b stick and R to attack so that I can keep my hands off the a b x and y buttons at all times if I wanted. My biggest problem in this set up is that I had to learn to wavedash through tap jump which is a lot harder. At first it seemed the old method with x or y then r or l being pressed was much much better and that tap jump would never be on the same level. Some who try may still find it like this. But through some practice I discovered a new kind of wavedash. I cant really explain how to do it other than u must try to wavedash with tap jump. eventually youll find that not only can you dash but as soon as you hit the ground youll go into the sidestep animation and continue to slide because of the nature of the way you input the wavedash is very similar to sidestep to the point where they overlap, effectively giving you real invincibility frames during your wavedash. Id like some more information on this AT if its out there. I doubt many of you will decide to use tap jump as a main source of jumping, but the freedom I have gained through my new controls is like a breath of fresh air and I know once mastered, it will be formidable.

You can see MDZ wavedashing with Tap Jump here. So while it could be PM specific I don't think that just using Tap Jump to WD would create what you are talking about.

basically you move the tap jump stick up right/left-down and press shield as you are transitioning from up to left/right-down. It will take you a long time to get your tap jump wd to work and in that time youll probably find it yourself.

If you see yourself sidestepping and just barely sliding, your doing it wrong, I think that is just dash stepping, your missing the WD part. The objective is to Wd left or right and as you hit youll begin sidestepping and the sidestep will continue to slide, you dont even have to input more controls, l and control stick is all I use.

You're probably just inputting a spot dodge as soon as your wavedash is over due to not having perfect muscle memory for a tapjump wavedash yet. It's nothing special.

yeah you are probably right, but I do believe it options some up mindgames as you are still moving and dodging. Ive uploaded a video that shows me doing it althought its not a very good one, you area able to go even further if you put the right controls/timings. I feel the last 2 show relatively what Im trying to explain.

well if you're spot dodging after a tap jump wavedash, it means you're pressing the control stick too far down. For a good wavedash, the control stick should barely pass below horizontal, as your airdodge need to be mostly horizontal but ever so slightly down. So try to practice not pressing down at all while doing it.

I use tap jump and for wave dashing I push the control stick up to jump and as soon as I do that I flick it down along the edge and air dodge. How far I slide it down the edge depends on how far I want to wavedash.
