Smash Cadet
Has been really hard on me. I'm a Link/Ike main and while Link and Ike were both "buffed" in this transition, they feel worse to me because I haven't adjusted to how they need to be played now. The biggest thing I've noticed is that everything seems to have landing lag now, coupled with the fact you can be grabbed out of the air, means being in the air puts you at a huge disadvantage so that you will hit their shield and be grabbed immediately the moment you leave the ground. My bread and butter for when going in as either Link or Ike was to short hop nair fastfall jab to grab combo; neither Link nor Ike can do this safely any more as it results in you getting shielded and grabbed 100% of the time. Link and Ike's nair neither had any landing lag at all so they were nearly perfectly safe. Link's zair also has landing lag now unlike Brawl.
So shields seem to be much different in this game than in Brawl. There's very little shield knockback it seems and they regenerate very quickly. Coupled with landing lag on nearly everything, it feels like this game is extremely defensive so I'm just having a hard time making the transition. Link isn't so hard; just stay back at range, spam boomerang/arrows/bombs ect. and grab as they get close and you'll win most FG matches np, with a little less effort than it took in Brawl. For Ike though, it feels like it requires far more effort to win than in Brawl simply because I don't know how to play him effectively in Smash 4.
I discovered something pretty recently that also made me realize why I was having such a hard time transitioning: there's significant landing lag when you land during an air dodge animation. What other huge nuances like that are in Smash 4 that weren't in Brawl that I need to know about to make this transition smoother?
