I don't know how many of you have heard this, but the United States the Supreme Court will be deciding if video games are art. If we lose, then games will no longer have the freedom of speech and can be regulated at the will of politicians. In other words, if we lose then video games will forever be little more than simple entertainment.

Think of it like this, the US is a major consumer for just about everything, especially video games. But imagine what could happen in a worst case scenario if politicians could just say "nope, to violent/explicit/ect. Take it away so we may all forget about it and act like it never happened." In a worst case scenario you might as well say goodbye to FPS, Survival Horror or hell, any other genre or game that might spark controversy. Developers will stop making games like Bioshock or Call of Duty because they'll be afraid that they will be banned and they'll lose money on them meaning that our options will be incredibly limited.

tl;dr: I want you to go to your game collection and toss aside any games that are particularly violent or get into some touchy subject matter. Then look at what you have left. In an absolute worst case scenario, this is what we'll have.

Now, I highly doubt that we will lose. Politicians have opposing new media for as long as there has been new media and films and comics survived when then went through something similar. However, for our preferred medium to succeed we need to show support, check out the Video Game Voter's network below to see how you can help our cause. I also recommend that you take a look at Extra Credits episode linked below.

This isn't really the right forum for this. Current Events or the Pool Room would probably be better.

Also, it's spelled "lose". Loose is what a barely tightened dog collar is.

Wow, I misspelled a simple word four times. I feel stupid.

Anyway, if any Mods feel like this should be somewhere else feel free to move it.

Haha, no worries.

I don't mean to put you down about it or anything, but this topic has come up several times, and IS much more suited for another forum.

It is, no doubt, an important issue though.
