This is not a character thread, but something applicable to all characters.

Do you want a free hit?

People of all skill levels seem to fall for this everytime. If your opponent is good enough, he or she may pick up on it though. The next time you fall out of the sky or are knocked down for whatever reason, and the enemey is a good 2 or 3 "character lenghts"away, just lay there and wait. Wait for your opponent to attack. When they get to you, initiate your Get-Up Attack and suprise them.

You seem to be invinsible during this attack, and many of them seem to have pretty good knockback. Many times, the other person may try to grab you or attack you, only to find that you cannot grab someone when theyre laying down, and many attacks do not work on you when laying down.

I learned of this due to my "main" being Charizard, along with my aggresive playstyle. I will sometimes use flare blitz like it HEALS Charizard. One day i used it to recover hit the enemy away, and was knocked on the ground by the atttacks knock-down effect. I just laid there as the enemy recovered, and waited for them to come get me. That big vulnerable Charizard laying there.

Upon attacking me, simply got up, and set my opponent ablaze with a fiery Get-Up attack. I especilly like Charizards get up attack because when he is down, he covers SO much ground, and his get up attack sets the enemy on fire, as if though it were a sweet-spot hit.

So ya...the get up attack...simple at first sight, awesome when implemented into a playstyle.

This isn't a new thing. (Pretty much everyone knows about these.) but also, if your fighting a Mewtwo or Samus, you'll bee shot if you just lie there and wait. Plus, if someone dashes up and then shields he/she gets a free attack or grab. Sooo not a good idea.

Uh... get up attacks can be useful but they certainly shouldn't be used a lot. And like Avakrr said, if they shield it's an automatic punish. You need to mix it up.

I think people are so used to tech chasing that when someone misses a tech, they almost forget how to react, and get up attacks are good for punishing specific types of players. When missing a tech, you should treat it like a ledge get-up: mix it up time to time, do not rely on the same tactic to work over and over.

Like some have said, be wary of shield. Some characters can shield a get-up attack and Fsmash you afterwards. That is very fatal. Characters like Falcon hang back during their Fsmash charge and I can't tell you how many times I've dashed up to a grounded opponent, stopped and let them get-up attack while I charge an Fsmash.

But yes, they are useful especially when you are getting rushed down. Sometimes the best option at the time would be to reset the game into neutral.

And yes, of course, I know it's something simple, and there are many ways to punish the get up attack, but all I'm saying is, use it when the opponent doesn't expect it or is playing too aggressively.
