Smash Master
Have you ever wondered where Sakurai gets his ideas for all the new things he incorporates into Smash? I definitely have, so I decided to make a series of hypothetical situations detailing how he goes about his decisions. Remember, these are hypothetical, and most likely would not happen in real life at all, so I tried to make them humorous.

Dev Team Member: Sakurai, are you finally finished with Kid Icarus Uprising?
Sakurai: Just about, I'm adding the final touches now
DTM: Who do you think we should add into the new Smash Bros. games?
Sakurai: Oh yeah, Iwata told me to develop those next. Let's see...
DTM: How about Ridley?
Sakurai: That seems like a big task, let's tackle that at some other point. How about someone smaller?
DTM: Like from Animal Crossing?
Sakurai: I can't do that, the characters from that game are way too peaceful.
DTM: But Animal Crossing is extremely popular basically everywhere. Besides, you added R.O.B., who's basically a harmless toy in real life.
Sakurai: That is true...How about Tom Nook then?
DTM: I don't know about that, PETA has really been getting on our case about animal abuse...
Sakurai: [laughs]
DTM: Why don't we add the player character from the games?
Sakurai: Alright then. But wait, I don't want to ruin the nature of the series, so we should always have him smiling. And his eyes should be tilted to the right at all times to maintain his innocence.
DTM: So basically the City Folk model?
Sakurai: Yeah, this way no one will find him dangerous or creepy at all!
DTM: How should he attack?
Sakurai: He should shovel his opponents into the ground and drop bowling balls onto their heads. Oh, and he should cut down trees that fall onto his enemies to send them flying.
DTM: That seems a little morbid...
Sakurai: Nonsense, those are simply actions he does in his own games, it's important to be faithful to the source material after all!

Sakurai: The 3DS version is giving me more trouble than I thought...
Dev Team Member: What's the matter Sakurai?
Sakurai: It's pretty hard to incorporate multiple characters on screen, and there seems to be an issue with transforming characters.
DTM: Sakurai, don't tell me that the Ice Climbers are cut!
Sakurai: Calm down, we'll work on that later. For now, I guess I'll cut transformations and make characters like Zelda and Sheik separate.
DTM: What about Pokemon Trainer? Separating him would make three different character slots, and would flood the roster with Pokemon.
Sakurai: Personally, I don't really care, but I know some fans online will definitely give me flack for a lack of diversity. I'll just talk to the Pokemon company about it.
(later)
Sakurai: So basically I'm splitting up the Pokemon Trainer into 3 separate characters but we can only keep one. Who should it be?
Pokemon Company: Well Charizard is the most popular, but you shouldn't leave out the fans of the other two!
Sakurai: So you say Charizard is the most popular. For now we'll just have him.
PC: But Sakurai-
Sakurai: I'll be going now. Any other characters you want me to add?
PC: Oh... Well you really should add back Mewtwo.
Sakurai: [laughs] We're thinking about it.
