The Rundown+Questions

[Olimarman]

Ok, tourney was a blast. A ton of pros, ninja link, m2k, bum, inui. Unfortunately I didn't do too hot:

I start out playing Jash, amazing TL. I get him to third game where he gave up after the stock being like 110% 2 stocks me to like 80% one stock him. So I win, was pretty happy I beat this guy.

Then I play Problem, he used Diddy+Mk. Went all 3 games, won. Fun games, was also happy.

Then I played Vanz, we played all 3 games, him as Mk. All that he did was use up his jumps doing dair and would finish up using nado. I won the 2nd game, and he took me to brinstar third game where I got 3 stocked. >.> I think I've played literally like 3 games on Brinstar ever, and of course every time I needed the lava to survive it wasn't there...

Then I played someone named Ron. He went Wolf the first game, won without too much trouble. Then he chose Pika on SV. 2nd stock on, constant ledge camping. I tried grabs, fair, fsmash, dair, grabbing the edge myself, nothing worked. Beat me game 2, upon deciding on a cp, I ended up picking RC since its the only stage that edge camping wouldnt work as well. Had I of thought for a little longer, I probably would have gone delfino. We stay about even until 2nd stock at the pendulum, I get pika fsmashed, hit into the blocks above the pendulum, I dont tech and lose the stock pretty early. The game plays out and I end up losing.

So, won 2 sets, lost 2 sets. Oh well. Also had a MM with Rogue Pit. Walked away down $2 Also played a few friendlies, played a pretty good weegee and a zss, beat them. Played Rogue Pit+.com in friendlies a bit also. Fun to finally meet them. There were only like 20 or so setups for roughly 100 people in brawl and melee, so friendlies weren't too easy to get.

It was really fun though, a few questions though:

Does Olimar have a single answer to ledge camping?

Does Olimar have an answer for an Mk who only dairs and nados, timing their landings perfectly so I can't grab them?

Is Brinstar really that bad of an Olimar stage?

I'm not too experienced against edge campers, but I would recommend SH off the stage, whistle, uair then tether to get them off. If they keep at it, I would just spam forward smash well, I guess. It's a shame you'd lose that way.

For the Meta Knight, I would learn to DI out of the Tornado, then whistle the last hitboxes (if possible) then punish the landing. I'd really have to see the Meta Knight to actually come up with a strategy. I'll just leave it at that and say just space your grabs well and predict when they'll change from tornado to dair.

Also, I dislike Brinstar. I'm just not a big fan of the uneven main platform. Although the platforms do give Olimar a lot of room to tech chase, I wouldn't recommend Brinstar for any Olimar...

Also, congratulations on at least getting two victories, Brad.

So, what was that you were saying on Skype? Oh, right.

How'd beating Mew2King work out for you? ^^;

second answer, yes, you just have to outsmart them there but they do have other stuff you can't beat

Olimar is BY FAR my worst character match up in brawl (ask blackwaltzx/ anyone else who knows me). although my strategy was tasteless, i feel absolutely no remorse for a character that can safely catch pivot grabs a quarter of the stage away. but regardless GGs. (oh, and game 2, i used ZSS :D)

yeah, that stage isn't good for olimar AT ALL. the lava kills his pikman, characters can attack him from below the stage. and there's no wall to tech, so anyone can just hit him, and he'll die.

lava won't kill his pikmin. the rest of the stuff is true, though.

Well, lava can kill them if they become desynched from oli which is a very possible situation.

I mean one thing about Brinstar is that you can use the lava to recover, except when its not there every single time it could have helped like in my set.

Oli benefits from slanted terrain, but uneven terrain isn't too good imo. Same thing applies to yoshi's, I don't really feel that's a good level for him.

Ledge camping. Against pikachu, just spam fsmashes off the side of the stage at full range. If you think he'll jump up from the ledge, grab at the ledge and you'll grab pikachu.

I don't like Brinstar. The black background confuses my eyes and I can't see the stage clearly. I'd switch to MK or Wario if someone brought me there.

I tried fsmashes several times, not one connected. I wasn't thinking straight at the time, I probably should have either gone Delfino or switched to Kirby on a neutral vs the pika. I think I should really work on a second for the few gay things that Olimar can't cope with.

Yah just gotta be patient. Keep pluckin and chuckin with fsmash off the side. It'll work. Also, if the pikachu is at high percents, just run to the other side of the stage and do the trick where you get only whites and purples. Throw the whites off and keep doing it and you'll get the kill much easier. That threat is enough to get him to stop when he realizes what you're doing. Against Pikachu, I'd go Battlefield.

I gladly would have stayed till whenever it ended, but it was my friend's mom who drove us, so him>me and I'm fairly positive he didn't win a single game... But yeah, fun games, great meeting you and Skor. I'll try to attend more.

Hmm, perhaps lol. I wasn't really thinking of a stage thats good/bad for pika in general, just for a way to get around the ledge camping. I kind of just made a quick move that seemed logical, but had I of really thought about it maybe I would have placed higher than 33/81...

I think my kirby could have taken him on like BF.
