Ok. I've never written a guide before, so here it goes. I used search and found nothing like this.

This guide is meant to improve the Lucas community's game. I will state when the best times to use Zair are in most situations. I notice not many Lucas's mix up their recovery, making them predictable.

Basic Principles: First off, against anyone with a spike Zair is a great choice for recovery. Also Zair is good for a quick edge grab to edgeguard. When you grab the edge with your snake, you DO NOT get invincibility frames, however if you immediately hit up when the snake bites the edge you will get the normal grabbing frames.

Read the posts also, they are very informative.

Characters: (Alphabetical order)

Bowser: A mindgame a lot of Bowser mainers employ is the Down B -> edgegrab tech. You can easily counter this by grabbing the edge with your snake, gaining invincibility frames when you pull yourself up, and making him fall to his doom.

Captain Falcon: If you are hanging on the edge and you get hit by his Up B, you will get stage spiked. However, if you are hanging by your snake you will be throw horizontally and can try to recover again.

Charizard: He has a pretty nasty spike, so don't be caught using PKT2 recovery too close to the stage. Rope snake if possible.

Diddy Kong: Diddy players will often just simply throw bannanas at you while you are doing PKT or they will use their Down B to throw them directly down at you. Use your snake to avoid getting barraged by bannanas. Also, Diddy's spike is good also, and you are a sitting duck to him when you are PKTing near the stage, use the snake.

Donkey Kong: Holy crap this monkey is loaded with spikes. His Side B is a spike and he gets a mid air stall, watch out. The snake is your friend. Otherwise a normal edgegrab for him can be throw off by a snake grab, maybe making him tumble just far enough to where he can't recover.

Falco: His spike is nasty, and he can totally **** you over by reflecting PKT. Again, snakes are good.

Fox: Not much to worry about, except the reflector. If he gets reckless use your snake.

Ganondorf: Holy crap his Dair!!! YOU WILL DIE IF HE HITS YOU!!!! Holy crap Ganon is powerful. Don't fall for the spike, it has a ridiculously huge hitbox and you will probibally die. Be very careful.

Ice Climbers: They have a spike, and the ice can mess up your PKT. Snake the edge.

Ike: His spike is very powerful, use your snake like I've been saying. You can edgeguard an Aether pretty easily though with good timing.

Ivysaur: Ivysaur will simply die if you snake the edge. The vine will go in front of Ivysaur at an angle, and s/he will then fall to his death. Watch out for Dairs.

Jigglypuff: If she catches you PKTing, she will WOP you until you die. Snakey is your friend.

King Dedede: Bair can make you die pretty easily when you are off the edge. Use Zair. Also don't get Dededecided.

Kirby: I'm pretty sure that Dair still spikes. If you tether the edge, you are also less likely to get Kirbycided.

Link: He has no spike, and if you PKT far enough away then he will probibally die if he tries to gimp you.

Lucario: Watch out for Dair, it has lots of killing power. As NESSBOUNDER said, Lucario will try to get you as you are pulling yourself up, so PKT2 is a generally safe option here.

Lucas: We can magnet a PKT in a ditto for an instant death. Use the snake.

Luigi: His spike is very hard to aim, not much to worry about here IMO.

Mario: Watch out for the spike and the cape. According to a poster in this thread, Squirtle's water gun can move you (I haven't tested this) so I'm assuming the same goes for Mario.

Marth: Who doesn't hate marth? Use Zair to prevent being spiked.

Meta Knight: He will own you off the stage if you don't snake.

Mr. Game & Watch: With his new, good recovery he may try to Oil Panic your PKT, making you die. Also GW likes to use his Dair -> Up B for gimping and offense.

Ness: It has actually been proven that Ness's spike is more powerful than Ganondorf's. Snake the edge so you don't get your PKT Magneted.

Olimar: If you snake the edge and he uses Up B, he won't grab the edge. Then he dies. If you are ledge hogging, you will get spiked from his Up B, but he will still die. Watch out for his easily nailed spike. Snakey is your friend.

Peach: Ugh peach. Just get on the stage as fast as you can.

Pikachu: Nothing special here.

Pit: He can mirror sheild your PKT2, making you die. Snake the edge.

R.O.B: His spike is gonna be easy to aim, seeing as how it stalls him and you are stalled too. Use Zair

Samus: Her spike is pretty good. Watch out.

Sheik: She doesn't have a spike anymore, IMO not much to worry about

Snake: Use your snake. You won't get C4'd and you won't get spiked.

Sonic: Not much to worry about here.

Squirtle: Be sure not to get pushed away from your PKT with his water gun.

Toon Link: You are a sitting duck for his spike. Watch out.

Wario: He can't spike you. Not much to worry about off the stage.

Wolf: He could reflect PKT, or spike you. Also, his recovery is HORRIBLE. If you snake the edge while he is using Up B, he will probibally die, since most of the time it seems Wolf players aim for the edge with Up B.

Yoshi: Don't get spiked. Also while fighting Yoshi, he has no 3rd jump, so you can also use your snake for a quick gimp.

Zelda: Again, Don't get spiked. If you snake the edge you are pretty much out of range of Din's fire.

Zero Suit Samus: Don't get hit by her Down B spike or her Up B spike. Since she is reliant on tether recovery, edgehogging with the snake isn't so hard after a while.

I hope this helps.

ADDITIONAL INFO!!!! (From posters)

You may also want to make a note that the rope snake can only grab the edge 3 times before you set foot on solid ground. After the 3rd tether, the rope snake will reach for the edge but not grab it. But it WILL pull to towards the edge in a wierd way.

You're not going to snake against Lucario. They usually go way out beyond the ledge to edgeguard, and when it comes to the edge, they usually prefer to stand back and try to get you as you pull yourself up.

Lucario's really floaty and isn't fast moving in the air. PKthunder2 isn't that bad an option really.

Mix things up when necessary. If your opponent can't figure out how to act vs. PKT2, for example, than Rope Snake will do nothing interesting for you.

it is very possible to get pushed away by Squirtle's Water Gun.

I know this because I've been on both the recieving and giving end of this.

I am glad Lucas' snake is a tether, but am so mad that it can't damage people! Btw a pretty decent guide. Could explain recovery options better though.

There's also some other little techniques with the ropse snake you could add. For example, dropping off the edge and regrabbing it allows you to get short invicibility frames every time you grab it. If you repeatedly regrab the edge, you can get a long period of invicibility useful on characters like Ike.

You ca als use the snake to prevent death from low trajectory attacks that send you down towards the stage. You airdodge as you fly off the stage and use your rope snake to grab the edge and pull yourself to the stage safely and avoid that knockback.

There's also your ability to make a quick sweetspot if you are bad at speed hugging. Run up to the edge, RAR, and rope snake.

I thought you guys might be interested to hear that tethering is NOT always a safe option. I'm no lucas main-I just like posting around on the boards.

I was playing against a friend of mine who mains lucas the other day and I used Ike's d-tilt to spike him right out of the animation where he pulls himself up to the ledge with his snake. :) I can't really replicate this since nobody brawls around me *it was on wifi* but perhaps someone could do some research to discover which moves will interfere with the tether when timed correctly.
