I could write a lot right here, but I think a single statement sums it up pretty well:
This would be a lot easier to handle if Nintendo would agree to do downloadable content.
I doubt many (if any) of you could disagree with that. Certainly, there are some people that got all the characters they cared about in this game, and for them, I must say I am happy. For those of you that didn't (I didn't plan on playing as Ridley, and I didn't really play as Mewtwo much, but I still think they both should have been in), even if the possibility of downloadable characters later on didn't promise the reintroduction of these characters into the series, there would always be the possibility to look forward to.
I do truly believe that Nintendo is a company for the fans. They do try to make games that will be playable and enjoyable for years after their release, and they do it for more than just making money. I firmly believe that (and honestly, if you disagree, it doesn't matter, because that's not the point), but I also know that sometimes Nintendo thinks they know what the fans want better than the fans know what the fans want. If they genuinely thought people really wanted things like downloadable content, they would put it in right off the bat...but they're stubborn. Hell, their original stance on online gaming was that it was more of a fad, and didn't really affect play very much. Of course, I say this with all due respect, because I have been a commited Nintendo fan since the days of the NES.
The fact is, the game is great the way it is, absolutely. I can't argue otherwise. My point is, that it could be better, and I'm sure that if they had had even more time, they may have put in more characters and all that jazz (but you know...after two-plus delays, they really need to get this game out). But I'm also saying that for all I care, the game could have had ten characters, four stages, and only classic one-player mode, and as long as we knew that Nintendo was seriously planning on trying out "Downloadable content", I would be okay.
Thoughts?
