Created a questionnaire attempting to gather peoples' opinions on the purpose and goals of local tournaments: Form

All of the answers are going to this sheet: Responses

Feel free to discuss this here - I'll try to keep up with discussion. Also, any feedback would be great [I'll be updated the form time passes, to better meet with the opinions/needs of the community].

There is a helluva lot of stuff in the follow-on links that is a lot more interesting as a thought-starter than I expected.

Building a better Facebook page, a small collection of useful links to TO-specific threads....

So, even though it wasn't your intent, thanks for sparking some new thoughts about my scene-building efforts.

First, any game must be part of the general populations life in order to be a viable professional sport.

The reason why Baseball and Football became popular pro sports in the U.S. is because the public was and is actively involved with them (both playing and spectating). Thus, Smash can't survive the pro environment long, unless there is a larger and consistently active amateur community.

People who are not "Smash Gods" need a venue that is appropriate to their skill level in order to stay interested. This provides an environment where they are not discouraged and try to do better.

That is the purpose and goal of Local Tournaments.

Saw this kind of late. I am a player and a TO who works mostly with Brawl and SSB64. My responses might be a little unorthodox but i hope they are helpful to you.
