The Speed
  • reduce the lag during actual matches
  • quicker at finding matches
  • quicker with starting matches
Lobbies
  • playing 2-minute matches all the time got extremely boring
  • add a lobby where you can choose what game mode you want to play
  • different sections for items, no items, event matches, co-op matches
  • different sections within those for 1v1, 2v2, free for all, stock or time match
  • Customizable Lobby where you can choose whatever type of match you want to play. Say bunny eared stamina match with only Pokeballs on high.
Tournament Lobby
  • a separate lobby to either join or create tournaments
  • make them up with your friends or join into others
  • to avoid players getting bored and playing something else while tournament is going on, have a central lobby where all current tournament players who aren't in a match can run around in a big stage and **** with each other or practice
  • Miiverse tournaments to win rare trophies
Daily Events
  • each day or few days have a new unique event mode appear
  • somewhat like the Rayman Legends Challenge Ap
  • limited time frame to complete the event, multiple tries to get a better score
  • something simple like KO this CPU using only a star rod
  • winning these events gets you rare stickers or trophies
Miiverse
  • post pictures you take to Miiverse
  • have different picture contests where you need to take a specific picture and the winner gets rare stickers
  • post messages for event matches or single player mode much like New Super Mario Bros. After completing the level it will show posts people have made about it, and give you the option to post about it
Profile
  • keeps track of your kills/deaths/etc.
  • displays your favourite character (one that is most used)
  • Online indication
  • option to invite to game or join lobby
  • option to add as Wii U friend
please add anything else you would like to see for online that would make the experience perfect for you

I'd guess lobby system would work best. Just create a room and set the rules and wait for people to join.

Yeah that's what I think would work out best.
The main separation would be items vs no items.
And then probably stock vs time.

It shouldn't be an issue for someone to search for a game under the no items and stock option.

Nobody has any ideas for online?
How about, if they bring back the post-game statistics, that each player has an on-going record of how they play adding up with each game? Melee had that really cool Style-Mode, so maybe the players have their "Style" added together to form some sort of Overall Style ranking system with a leaderboard and everything. The players who play the best in matches, overall, are on the top.

I would love it if they brought back the post game Bonus stats, they were so much fun to look at after the match to see what crazy bonuses would come up.

I think it would be cool for them to implement some sort of skill based ranking system. That way you could get matched up with people around your skill level. Depending on what skill level you had you would be put into a certain "class" that they could use special Nintendo specific names for (like a Mushroom class, Triforce class, Starman class, etc.). Then they could run online tournaments for each class so the skill gap would be close and make for better matches.

If there was the ability to be in some kind of league play where there were rankings then that would be awesome. There is about a .5% chance of that happening though.

Yeah, no kidding. Nintendo isn't exactly known for their competitive online experiences. Honestly I'll be happy if it is at least functional and almost lagless. I have hope that they can at least get it working this time since they have had a bit more experience with competitive online since Brawl was released.

Perfect online? Allow me to teleport through the TV screen to the opposing play so we can play locally and have more fun or show them a real Smash :awesome:.

But in all seriousness, I think you covered everything that would make the online experience good.

Longer recording times. Brawl had what? 5min cut off?
We should be able to record at least 10 to 15min long matches. And send them to friends or post on Miiverse.

Youtube and Twitch support will never happen, but would be a dream come true.

Actually Brawls cutoff time was 3 minutes. Also SD cards were only allowed to carry 1000 replays total. Not nearly enough for me!

Yeah, a lobby system would be cool, anyone could host a match and you could find one or host on yourself, with your rules, and set how many players can join.

I hope it is similar to Playstation All Stars Battle Royale. Played that game a fair bit, and I loved the options online had, especially the co-op aspect since it allowed me and my bro to put in work. Also glad they had stock option and no items, if Smash4 has this with little to no lag i will be extremely pleased.

Some form of support for online tournaments would be cool. Sure people could just organize it themselves and set up the right matches in lobbies, but then you have to worry about random people joining and such. So maybe have some sort of system where a tournament organizer could first select everyone who is in a tournament and set up the matches. Further people would be able to spectate the tournament to get an overall picture of what is happening (stock score of matches in progress, who was already won what matches, etc), and then they'd be able to view particular matches of the overall tournament that interest them. Is it asking for too much? You better believe it. But it would still be great if somehow it did happen.

I really think they did a great job with "Communities" in Mario Kart 7. I think if they put something similar into Smash 4 except improved on it further it would make for a really good optional competitive experience that wouldn't take away from the casual experience that Sakurai desires.

I'm not sure if someone already said this, but I would like if they completely scrapped the idea of Friend Codes in favor of something more akin to what the PS3 had, or even the PS4.

This article is amazing: http://www.cubed3.com/news/19230/1/...nture-dlc-counter-operative.html#.UtXkGJ5dWa8 (except for #19)

Here's a small part of it.

"An additional feature that would further improve the online portion of the game would be to include the ability for players to set up their own communities and tournaments, quite like the community feature found in Mario Kart 7, but with more options. Players would be able to decide whether they would like to use items or not, which items to appear and their frequency. The ability to choose which stages are allowed for the tournament and alter various other components would strengthen the online experience.

Nintendo can also hold their own tournaments on regular occasions, which will award players with titles/trophies when placed among the top three participants. These awards can then be assigned to the player's unique profile card, which displays information such as wins/losses, favourite character, etc."

Having such a complex lobby would take time to code, and harder to get matches.(if you want to play with only those set rules)

The max I see on lobby is time Or stock, team or free-for-all, items or no items.

HOWEVER! They could potentially set it up in a Dark Moon style, where you look at games people make,(or make your own) and join.

You log on, and see a large list of games. Each has their own rules, and you can join any. It says as follows-

3 Stock
Items Off
Time limit:6:30
Players: (1/4)

People can choose to join games, and the match creator can set how many need to join before you start. You can also choose to start it before it is full if you're just impatient.

Everything suggested sounds great, I hope we see at least half of these options. Now let me have customized taunt messages again and we will be in business.

Communities like Mario kart 7 would be awesome

I really hope that's going to be the standard for online gaming from Nintendo.
Mario Kart 7 online is fantastic.
Mario Kart 8 sounds like it will build on that and offer more.
Smash has so much potential now with MK7 paving the way with what online can be and MK8 big emphasis on it.
There are literally no excuses to have an online community an less than what MK7 has to offer.
