Tonight's update... reminded me of something. You may have heard of an RPG game called Contact for the DS, developed by Grasshopper Manufacture. This game has a character named Terry that runs around fighting enemies to help this weird professor dude out, but that's not the important thing, here...

Take a look at this quote from the Wikipedia article:

The game also uses decals or stickers. The player can stick multiple decals to Terry, resulting in added powers. Decals can also be used to attack enemies, heal the character's wounds, and other functions.
And a page from the game's actual website:

http://www.atlus.com/contact/system_2.html

In the game, you pick up many of these decals, and slap them onto your character, four to a maximum. They have such abilities as upping attack, speed, defense, and such. Also, once you remove them, they're gone forever.

Could this be some bizare coincidence? Hmmm...

Super Paper Mario had a similar thing with enemies....it was....cards. the more cards of the enemy you had, the higher dmg you did to them. That's what this reminded me of, although it's different (powerups do more than just increase dmg).

PLAGIARISM!! Naw. Don't a lot of games use this sticker function though?
If you count magic rings, armor, pants, ect as stickers, sure. But I haven't played many games that use stickers or patches like Contact and Smash. Actually, those are the only 2 games I know of that do that. I think it's coincidence though.

Atlus would be a pretty kick *** third party though.

When you put it that way, I see your point. Allthough the execution is played out a little more complexly with the way you can manage your space. I can imagine there is going to be some huge strategies into getting the highest powered characters for the Subspace just by the way you position the stickers to maximize the capacity the trophy base can take. For a stupid example, if you got a bunch of tetrimino stickers, and fit them all together completely covering the trophy base.

However, for Super Smash Bros, this caught me way off guard. Everybody was predicting how we'd power ourselves up in the Subspace, but I don't think anybody dreamed of this. Stickers just seemed like a sick joke to me at first.

That would be pretty amazing if it was just a coincidence. Wait... could it mean... Travis Touchdown is in Brawl????????

(I'm not being serious, just so no one gets confused.)
