Smash Ace
I'm excited about this personally, I think it would feel great to flick the Wiimote in the direction of your smash.
But deep down there's this dreading fear that it wont work out properly.
Look at games like Soul Calibur: Legends. They tried to do something very similar, but it was finnicky and didn't work all of the time - that type of thing would be horrible for Smash.
Metroid Prime 3, you flicked the controller up to ball-jump, but there were times when you sat there flicking the thing three times over before it registered.
But then there are games like Galaxy, where the flick always works, and you never think about it. There are games like TP where you flick and it always works. Could this technology be used for Brawl?
So, how do you think it'll be implemented? Does anyone know how the Wii remote works for stuff like that? Is it possible for them to put this in with no flaws? Would you bother using this function? What are your fears, concerns, hopes, or ideas?
My fears:
Swinging it in a direction too hard will put more pressure on the opposite side of the Wii remote and register as a LEFT swing. I fear that you will have to gently ease in to the swing so that the device recognizes it properly. In a game like Smash, you need on-the-fly controls.
Another thing that worries me is that there will be no - or very difficult to perform - angled smashes using this method. I honestly can't see the Wii remote detecting sensative movements like that.
My hopes:
Brilliant response time and recognition. Feels great; you don't even think about it. Angled smashes are possible, somehow.
As you can see, I have far more fears. However, if my hopes are recognized, that will obliterate the fears. If this is implemented properly I honestly think I may use this control method exclusively, depending on how I can tech with it as well. Since there's no wavedashing, I really don't see much more use for the GC controller than the classic controller, or nun-chuck styles.
