the models

I've been watching these subspace cinematics, the ones that seem to be rendered out instead of playing in the engine...and they feel kinda clunky to me. The models are still low poly, (easiest to tell with the closeup of kirby and mario shakin hands), and the animations just dont seem to have a lot of time put into them.

Normally I guess it wouldnt bother me, but melee had this great intro movie that looked like it was produced with a meticulous amount of detail, and zero poly faceting. Dont you think that these guys would want the same quality in this upcoming game?

My only hope is that, because the ingame models have what looks like these awesome normal mapped textures, the team must have higher res models lying around somewhere.

Does anyone care about this sort of thing?

Perhaps the video quality gets decimated with online streaming? Let's hope for that.

The online streaming thing seems reasonable.
For example, in the Snake videos, Mario looks strangely pale to me, but in the higher quality screen shots he doesn't.
I'm sure that the graphics in this game won't be a disappointment.

I dunno man, if we're talkin color, framerate, artifacts, and that sort of thing, i'd totally agree. but its not like the model resolution drops because of low bandwidth. We'll see. I guess i'm just hoping for a killer intro up to par with melee's

My best guess is that Sakurai wanted to make the cutscenes as crisp as possible, but the graphical appearance still as close as the real thing. So that we wouldn't feel too cheated out.

The reason why Melee's intro looks so good was because it wasnt a real time video (produced from the actual models and surroundings in the time being).
Brawl videos look like they are done in real time, making it look clunky as you describe it.

I dont think the video was decimated by the online streaming, that would have looked pixelated (not the proper DPI, resolution etc) or even wrong colours (CMYK instead of RGB)

Also, I think I read somewhere that:
Gameplay > Graphics

^Where has Sakurai said this? What's the source?

If I had a dime for every time someone brings this up. Anyone can post on their blog "On such an such radio show (which will never be replayed or given proper citation), Sakurai said Ice Climbers will be removed".

It's just a RUMOR, and besides - if it's slower it's for the better. It won't be by much either seeing as how the ****ing videos that have been shown don't show a shred of slower gameplya yet.

Get a life and do some research before you go believing stupid ****.

you're telling him to get a life... and then you're telling him to do more research?

how ironic.

if I had a dime for every time some kid came in flaming people for speculating, I'd be rich right now. hell, I'd have all the money in the world. instead of jumping all over people, like you just did, calm down and do some speculation. don't tell people to "get a life you stupid and do research and stuff". it tends to make people think you're ******** or something.

on a side note, some rumors are true, like the rumor of Microsoft and Bungie breaking up. no one believed it, then it happened. and everybody was like "****, we're dumb"

jumping to conclusions is bad.

No Internet?!?
Sakurai did say that Brawl is going to be "moderated" compared to Melee, it was in his E-Mails. (You can find them on this forum somewhere too, so you don't have to look far to see that).

Don't believe rumours though. No one has any clue what they're talking about.
