People say 47 appears in all the PM blogposts/videos?Something like that.

To get things more serious,something I thought of was this...Currently there are 41 characters.If you add the Random icon,there are 42 icons on the select screen.If the 5 character slots left are filled,there will be 47.So maybe the five slots WILL be filled eventually.
Not extremely exciting,but the devs have said that they may not even add all 5,if any at all.Perhaps this is proof they will.

A common theory is that it confirms Skull Kid as a character.In Melee,47 is the Event Match # of Trophy Tussle 3,
which has you smashing on a special Majora's Mask stage for a Majora's Mask trophy.This is probably more likely than my own theory.
