The Kindle, for those who don't know, is a device made by amazon for reading e-books. it was first released on november 19, 2007. You just download books and they're stored in your kindle for easy access. I might be wrong, but this seems to me like the future of books. Kids wouldn't have to carry around heavy textbooks all the time. They could all just be stored on the Kindle. My dad just received his kindle for father's day. I think he cancelled his NY times delivery subscription and just gets it on his kindle now. Sounds pretty cool to me. I wouldn't mind getting one. Thoughts?

Hears a wiki article on it if anyone's curious:

I am working on getting one free. They are neat, but pretty **** expensive what with books and all. The average book is about $10, and that adds up. Plus, I have enough books I haven't read yet in hardback.

I kind of take pride in my library. I like to fill my bookshelf. There's also a warm feeling you get when you loan someone a book, because you never really loan someone a book without expecting them never to give it back. Giving friends paperback books that I loved and I think they will love is part of the fun.

The Kindle is so expensive...

My room mate is a hardcore reader. Like, her room is nothing but bookshelves of books. She got a kindle for Christmas, and she's had nothing but good reviews about it.

She says books are only 4-8 bucks, which is super cheap compared to Barnes and Noble, and most of the classics you can find online for free. She's sad that she doesn't get to continue her old book collection, but she says it's worth it since she can now carry her new book collection anywhere with her in her purse. I'm not a big reader, but I could see myself buying a Kindle if I ever became one.

I've heard some unsavory things about the latest Kindle, but the first one I guess rocks and overall it's a cool thing.

I'm holding out for the next one, and am going to see the reviews for it. I guess some people had transfer issues going from Kindle 1 to 2 and lost a lot of content. I would be afraid of this happening. When I upgrade, I want my entire collection to go with me. I was actually geared up to save for one until I read this review: http://www.amazon.com/review/RV0R3A...&ASIN=B00154JDAI&nodeID=172282#wasThisHelpful

I can't wait until the next one. I love my books, I really do, but it'd be so nice to have hundreds of books at my disposal while traveling. For example: I wanted to reread Harry Potter while I'm in Korea, but it's just not feasible for me to pack 7 hard back books to come along with me.

I also really wish there was an option to buy the book on Amazon and then get it either complimentary or at a lower price for the Kindle. I just love the feel and smell of a book in my hands, but for the metro or business trips, I would want the compact size of the kindle.

I think there is something special about collecting tangible books.. and I find reading a lot easier from books.
It strains my eyes less and I tend to be able to comprehend it better. But that's just me.
