『 HOLY DIVER 』 Jojo Part 7 best part.
I believe this topic fits this forum as it will affect the competitive scene as a whole, even if slightly. Please move if needed.

Some of you might have been seeing it happening at some events, especially at a more local level. I have seen it happen myself. Pokken and Smash 4 are sharing venues, sometimes even days. This pretty a logical step because of the WiiU's life.
The WiiU didn't do so well. We all know this. As a console it failed to compete with many of its console rivals in terms of sales. This is, however, not a console war thread; far from it actually.

The WiiU's scarcity as a popular console places the Smash 4 community as a very dedicated hub for WiiU owners. Smash being classified as one of the WiiUs "Killer Apps" and surely its most played. However when another killer app shows its face on the platform things are bound to get interesting. Pokken, WiiU's latest killer app, just so happens to be geared towards a competitive nature. With these two being on a console with a low user-base and popularity it's not a massive surprise that we're probably going to see a lot of overlap at venues regarding Pokken and Smash 4.

WiiUs as a console are a commodity. Unlike melee dirt cheap CRT + GCN or Wii setup, Smash 4 requires a nice HDTV/Monitor and a WiiU. Pokken, needs the same as Smash 4 but times 2, plus 2 lan adapters and 1 crossover cable.
Given the demanding nature of the setup it would be natural for Pokken to become a sibling to Smash 4 events.

From a T.O logistical standpoint it makes perfect sense. We have a lot of WiiUs and monitors, let's run both games.
While it's a major implication to think that a lot of Smash 4 players would also be into Pokken, it's not that :083:d to think that many of them would also be interested in Pokken. Hell, they already own a WiiU, might as well try it at least.

Now, here's my question to you. While bigger events will naturally run on their own days, what would your stance be on the relationship between Smash 4 and Pokken?

I personally believe that if both games cooperate it could do wonders to both scenes. However I understand how it can cause massive time strains to events if player overlap holds the brackets, or ending up getting side-events shafted (like Doubles). Is it worth the compromise? It's probably too soon to tell.

Pokken setups require 2 Wii Us and TVs instead of one, so having an event present both Smash and Pokken on the same day means, for an hypothetical equal number of participants for both games, three times the number of Wii U required than it would for Smash alone.

I'll repeat it for emphasis : three times as many setups will be needed per tournament. That is not realistic.
And even if the number of Pokken players is half of the Smash players that's still twice the number of setups needed compared to a standalone smash 4 tournament.

The way I see it right now is having a pokken setup at a smash tournament and vice versa, and if the TOs want to present both games they'll do it on different days.

Plus, I'd rather compare Pokken to Splatoon rather than to Smash because even if they are both fighting games Smash lives on the legacy of 3 previous versions while Pokken is a brand new game with unique mechanics that needs to find its audience.
