When it comes to the list of possible fire emblem characters for ssb4 the list is a bit lengthy. Some of the names I have heard include Roy, Chrom, Lucina, Lyn, Robin, Ephraim, or even Anna. But one other character has been brought up a few times that is unique, popular, and one of the coolest fire emblem characters of the fire emblem franchise. That character would be the Black Knight!

Background
The Black Knight is the most powerful (by a longshot) of the 4 riders of Daein. He wears a black suit of armor that is blessed by the goddess Ashera so that it can only be penetrated by weapons that are divinely blessed. A few chapters into Path of Radiance we see the Black Knight for the first time as he challenges Ike's father Greil to a duel, and ultimately kills Greil. Doing this makes the Black Knight Ike's mortal enemy. Near the end of the game Ike and The Black Knight face off and Ike defeats and "kills" the black knight and he is left in the ruins of a castle. But it turns out the black knight is far from dead as we see him in the next game.

In radiant dawn the black knight returns to protect Micaiah when the corrupt general Jarod of Begnion is hunting her down. Due to the strength of the Black Knight general jarod is defeated and Daien is free. After this he mysteriously disappears for much of the game. Near the end of the game the black knight reappears to help Micaiah and tries to convince her to come and see his master. When she refuses he leaves once again. Finally he reappears in the tower of guidance where it is revealed that his true identity is Zelgius, the general of Begnion who had played a major role in both games. He also reveals that the reason he wants to duel with Ike is because Ike fights like his father Greil who had actually formerly been one of the 4 riders of Daien and was the Black Knights teacher. He had found out that Greil had not been at full strength when he fought and killed him, so he needed to prove he was stronger than Gawain by defeating his son instead. In Ike and the Black Knights final duel Ike wins and the Black Knight finally breathes his last. Before he dies, Zelgius thanks Ike for letting him fight someone so similar to Gawain during his glory days. Ike then tells Zelgius that he was his final teacher and if you dont cry during this scene then you are a heartless *******.

Why does he deserve a spot?

For one thing, as you can tell from the story the black knight is the most badass character in fire emblem lore. For another thing he would be completely unique in appearance, playstyle, and loyalty to the rest of the fire emblem characters and candidates. The fact that he would look different is pretty obvious, he wears a giant black suit of divine armor while the other characters do not. In playstyle you may say "he has a sword, bluuurg" but having a sword is basically where the similarities end. He would be much slower and much more powerful than the other characters. He could also incorporate the fact that he has A GIANT DIVINE SET OF FREAKING ARMOR. Also his sword, alondite, is divinely blessed so it can have some magic attributes to some of his moveset like maybe his ranged attack from fire emblem. also he has warp powder so maybe he can use that for his up special idk. As for loyalty he would serve as a much needed break in the long chain of proposed characters that are the Lords of their respective games. Instead he is a main villain, main ally, and important side playable character mixed into one package of blackness! Also of note is that he is in my opinion the most popular villain in the fire emblem series, so if sakurai wants a villain as a playable character the choice should be easy. There also is the fact that he has been featured in a fire emblem game since brawl. I think that since the possiblity stands that Ike could be replaced by the equally as successful Chrom from Awakening, the black knight should be featured as the third rep to help represent all three of the fire emblem storylines that have been released since brawl.
