Most other translations can roughly be translated to say something that has nothing to do with Ness being gone, so I wouldn't rule out Ness.

I mean, why would they confirm a removal? They only confirm entrances. They've never said, "This feature is gone now", except for maybe clones, and Ness and Lucas are too different to be considered clones.

IMO, I think they needed a way of wording it so that they didn't convey very much. They can't let on that he's in, and they can't let on that he's gone.

I used babelfish (as crappy as it is) and the guy seems to be true.

The Japanese and German sites say "still,"

the French version says "you will soon adopt Lucas" (as ambiguous as the English text),

the Spanish version simply mentions that Ness has appeared in the last two Smash Bros. games (though I suppose it could be take the same way as the English version),

and the Italian version says "so far..."

(though the Italian translation told me "His strong attack up is a football reversed mentally strengthened." Google translator fails sometimes.)

"up until now" means, until this point in time, something was true. Now, however, it is not.

So, Ness WAS in Smash, up until now, since he's been replaced by Lucas.

I agree. I am sad to see Ness go, but let's not be unreasonable. All the evidence we have so far points to Lucas as a replacement.

Nate Bihldorff is the translator / head of localization as far as the DOJO goes. Don't you think that he would be aware of such ambiguity? Moreover, don't you think that he of all people would know whether or not Ness were in Brawl? If there were any doubt, we would see it.

The Special Moves are near identical in structure. The DOJO implies that Ness's Smash forays are a thing of the past. Sakurai admitted on the Melee site that Lucas was originally planned to replace Ness in Melee, but MOTHER3 was scrapped / ported / delayed / remade / whathaveyou.

Don't get me wrong--I love Ness--but I think it's safe to say that he's gone.

But, Pluvia, up UNTIL now means a difference, "until" means like a shift from then and after, I can't think of a single time when its meant the same thing. Its really hard, but as you've said before, its a coin flip, and the coin's in Sakurai's hands.

and at ^, does luigified mean anything to you? PK fires horizontal, instead of downward, PK Freeze well, freezes instead of blows to oblivion, and his psi magnet is on his hand. We havent seen any of them actually work in gameplay, so they seem similar now, but honestly Mario and Luigi's attacks have more apparent similarities than Ness vs. Lucas'...
