Any dancers here? I'm talking anything. Do you breakdance? Salsa? Love your ballroom dances? Can't live without going to the club at least once a week? Post here! And maybe we can get some routines going at EVO or some other tournament.

For me, it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing ^_^ I started swing dancing senior year of high school, when my best friend (whose girlfriend was president of Swing Club) literally grabbed me by the neck in a headlock and dragged me to the first meeting of Swing Club that year. I enjoyed it, and continued dancing socially with Purdue's Night Train Swing society.

I live by my Lindy Hop, although I dabble in East Coast and Charleston, and I really, really, really want to get into West Coast and Shag.

I've got those songs that I really, really, really have to dance to, no matter how bad the dancing is that night. There's "Moondance" by Van Morrison (although I don't mind Buble) and "Bei Mir Bist du Schon" (from the Swing Kids soundtrack).

How about you guys?

I used to have lessons in breakdance like 3 years ago, but I quit because I was to busy, but now I'm practicing it a bit again. Also, my sisters dragged me to taking dance classes with them, so I'm a ballroom dancer too. :p

Also, the clubs in my city are either way to small or too overcrowded because there is never any place for some dancing, which I think sucks. But maybe that's because the clubs I can go to, just suck really bad.

Also, for songs which I just HAVE to dance to are A Little Less Conversation by Elvis Presley, Rockafella Skank by Fat Boy Slim, Let Me Clear My Throat by DJ Kool and anything else that's oldskool hiphop( especially Run DMC, but that goes without saying).

My high school dances were hilarious, and they invariably went like this: On the outskirts of the dance floor you have the real dancers, like the ballroom dancers, the swing dancers, and the other dancers that come from dedicated dance clubs or cliques formed around dancing.

In the middle? It's one big frakking orgy of bump and grinding freak dancers, except when everyone from outside of the middle comes to the middle to rock out the jam circle. That's when my friend and his girlfriend pulled out some really crazy aerial steps.

I've danced ballroom and latin on and off for a few years :] I'm up to my gold medal in latin, but I decided to take a break from it cause the weather was so hot. Go figure. Works in my mind >_>

Absolutely love the Jive, lovin keeping it lively and kicking legs all around the place :] Tango is also hot. :D Although I've only done the english tango, I'd like an opportunity to learn argentinian tango though :D We went to see a concert featuring it and maaan, some of the dancers are amazing, they kick and move their legs ridiculously quicly @_@

I'd love to learn break dancing sometime in the future maybe, I think it looks awesome fun :D

Lawrence (Fifthman), I'm part of the breakdancing club over here in Purdue. I never knew you were into dancing, you should of told me at one of the SSBO tournaments.
Yesterday, I skipped the SSBO tournament to go to a b-boy (breakdance) event down at Indiana University. It was amazing! I got to meet some well known dancers and saw amazing things from even the less experienced dancers.
1990s to air flares to flares to headmills...beautiful site.

My favorite type of dancing to watch is So You Think You Can Dance season 2

I saw them dance live in portland, it was badass!

I also like watching broadway dance numbers.

I think the worse way to learn breaking is through classes. It's better to be an E-boy (learn off online videos) or meet other breakers who have a good amount of experience (joining a crew or club/group or going to events).
Most bboys and bgirls out there learned from people they personally know.

Videos help but I don't think there is any substitute for a real person telling you what your mistakes are and how to fix those mistakes. I Got the basics down from a class and then eventually found some friends that were bboys and I just kinda got better from there. Don't do it as much anymore, though, sadly.

I want to learn to salsa though.

I can sort of breakdance. That just means I'm willing to embarrass myself by spinning around on a cardboard mat.

I actually had a breakdance-off with some ghetto kids (like, really hardcore breakdancers). It would have been a fun experience if they didn't practically stab me to death when they saw that I had no real skill. Also, I have a hard time acting ghetto, so I didn't fit in.

Breakdancing is really fun, though.

Wait, Carl, you breakdance? That would be fun to learn, although I have no idea where i'll find the time. When finals get out maybe you can show me a couple things (and when I start getting into shape.)

Oh, and this is probably my most favorite Lindy Hop routine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uBwm3FjdP0

It's Carla Heiney and Kevin St. Laurent dancing at a venue in Barcelona in 2003.
