My favorite thing about Ridley is that he's Samus' main enemy, and he's a f---ing DRAGON! He's awesome. How awesome? He can shoot plasma and fire out of his mouth, and dies many times without ever being finished. Man... Ridley sure is awesome.

Seriously.. did you see how huge he was compared to Samus in the Metroid games? How are they supposed to downsize him? How are they going to fix his jumps?

His specials could be cloning Bowser because of Fire Breathing.

What specials is he supposed to have?

I can kinda see his physical attacks, but it'd just turn out weird like Mewtwo did


EDIT: If Ridley was supposed to swipe and bite and such, wouldnt he be copying Bowser?


Point of this thread is to show out the FLAWS if Ridley were to be a character.. Not on how great he is being a dragon and all.

Yeah, I realized Bowser was huge in his games, plus their's Pikachu who is TINY. Ridley could be modified to fit Brawl. Did the downsizing of Bowser ruin him? I don't think so.

Him flying? That's also an invalid reason. He doesn't have to have the flying ability in the game.

in melee trailer he was just a little bit bigger then samus. and as far as specials go he has plasma breath, fly, his claws, tackle, and his tail. also his claws and bites would work allot different from bowser

You get the point.. Plus, making up all his Specials from bits and bits from the Metriod games seems alot like Ness.

Here's a few movesets for you to read. I don't think they'll convince you, cause you're clearly insanely biased, but read em anyway, since you asked.

Plasma Breath= Bowsers Fire Breath
Fly= Kirby, Jiggs, Meta, Pit
Claws= Bowser
Tackle= Alot of characters have a tackle as their running physical move.
Tail= Yoshi uses his tail in some moves.

Erm, okay... Plasma Breath doesn't necessarily have to be anything like Bowser. Could be individual fire balls that act in varying ways, or a gathered beam or whatever. And yes, they are similar to Mario and Samus. But guess what? Practically every type of projectile actuion possible has already made it into Melee and will probably be in Brawl.

Flying? Big whoopdy doo. Look at those characters. Just look. Now, out of those four, how many are big, mean *******s with insane power and weight? None. So no deal.

Claws? Claws are standard attacks. You might as well get mad at Luigi or Ganondorf of Captain Falcon for punching, cause that's what Mario does. They can be implemented well.

Tail. Again, so Yoshi uses his tail. Is it huge and prehensile and able to perform a massive array of techniques if utilized well? No. Not at all.

he was tied in 2nd place in sakurai's polls. ike was also ranked high in sakurai's polls. look where that got him.

Multi-clone? Honey, a multi-clone is strangely enough not a clone. Because the different moves will combine with his own weight, jumps, power, whatever to make an entirely new character.

Oh, and you want Wolf? Okay, prove how he won't end up as a Fox clone or at the very least a multi clone?

At least Ridley would be unique as a flying heavyweight. Wolf is nothing new.

The only thing Ridley would cloning would be the fireball. The bites and scratches could be very different.

Ridley is a far better idea than any other Nintendo character people suggest, hell he's even a better idea than the dumb fart joke Wario and generic swordsman #3, Ike.

TBH, I'm not really a fan of the metroid series (TOO MUCH BACKTRACKING), but Ridley is a cool character. The fact is, is that Ridley isn't a clone, and that's why he'd be a good character.

You're right. If his moves are even closely similar to any of the other characters in the game, he's clearly a clone.

Let's look at Mario, one of the bare essentials for Smash:

Fist fight? ZOMG Every character without a weapon fites liek dis! Kick him out
Fireballs? OMG Zelda has Din's Fire. There exactly teh saem
Cape? LOL its jsut a reflecter, leik fox
Mario Tornado? WTF! Its just Links swordspni!!


Clearly, Mario is just a sick, sick combination of Fist fighters like DK, Zelda, Fox, and Link, rather than his own character. One could go so far as to say he's clearly a clone. Exactly like Ridley would be if he had moves that could, by some ridiculous stretch of the imagination, be considered similar to another character's.

Can you provide good reasons for him not to be? With a roster of between 40-50 characters, you'll have to provide a minimum of 40 people who deserve it more.

And hey, I've not played a Metroid game in my life. I just think a heavy flyer with projectiles is something unique the game can use. And that Metroid needs more reps.
