Smash Apprentice
The tournament was a successful local. This was our first time doing a tournament with TradeWind Games as well as our first attempt at Swiss Pools into a Top 8 cutoff. Central Arkansas had a dominating performance, taking the top 3 spots for Melee Singles and 2 out of the top 3 spots for Project M Singles. The Swiss was met with a generally positive attitude, with a only 2 or 3 hiccups. As a result of one the mistakes, the finals for PM Singles was expanded to Top 9 instead of a Top 8. The turn out was smaller than it could have been, with many confirmations ending up not being able to make it out last minute. While smaller than the 47 participants of the 2nd Melee Waylay, we still had a group of 27 participants: consisting primarily of return players from the previous installments. Generally speaking: it was an overall positive test run of Swiss pools, a lot of good friendlies, a good spectrum of skill levels, and some down to the last stock matches (including an 18 minute Samus vs Peach match).
