That moment when your opponent starts walking back and forth and turning in place.
You know they've been replaced by a CPU.

This usually signifies the end of the fun you've been having and you're somewhat reluctant to continue going all-out on the NPC as one or two smash attacks should be enough to finish it off.

This had been my experience up until last night.

I was playing a fierce match against an opponent with the same level of skill I have. It was toe-to-toe, intense movements and spot dodges. Everything was moving at a fever pitch when suddenly it lagged.

My opponent started walking around. Back and forth, turning in place and jumping in response to my movements.
Great, he'd been replaced by a CPU. I did some weak aerials against him and started pushing him toward the ledge.

That's when he struck. He moved into a strategic position and punished me severely with a KO. I had lost!

When I got through the results screen, my opponent was still there! He had tricked me!

Well played, good sir, well played.

I feel like a lot of people do this if they're losing. If it's just one of those 1 time lag spikes and doesn't continue. They'll act like they lost to lag. I usually slow down as well and keep my cool, and make sure we're both ready to continue. If you're playing as Fox now is the time to down taunt.
"Come on!" or Falcon's, or many more with that same feel.
If you deserved the win I'll sometimes take it. If they are someone who was just way less skilled then you, sometimes I'll just SD to negate all satisfaction. I don't like beating someone who doesn't try, and win % never meant anything so if they go this route I'm just ready to find someone new.

If I play against someone who has stopped trying (usually because of a low % gimp), I deny their fun as best as I can. Usually by no longer attacking and stalling to time.

That's what the SD is for. To end matches when people waste time on purpose in an attempt to suck the fun out of the game. Just SD, cop the loss and move on to someone who will actually play the game properly.

Denying them the satisfaction of a quick and merciful death is satisfying enough for me. I just watch TV or finish pooping or w/e until the game is over.

My favorite is when they suicide, because it makes me feel like jigsaw a little bit. They have to choose between suicide or waiting for 3.5 - 4 minutes. Mwahahaha, dance puppets.

That moment when people read the thread title only and start debating about it.

East choice there. A quick SD and move on to others who actually want to play the game properly. We don't care at all for the other person's antics in this scenario. Just moving on to another player ASAP. If you think people care about this, they don't, just just a reflex reaction, people waste time like a *****, either the time waster is punished by losing quickly or SDs happen quickly. You're making it a bigger deal than it is. And there's not too many people online who waste time like this.

The short answer: If you want to time waste like a *****, people don't care. You are not making them squirm at all like you think. They just move on ASAP to a new match.

The fact that you compare this situation in a game like smash, to a terrible movie and character like Jigsaw is a bit sad. You sure you're 25? sounds a bit more like a teen trying desperately to get a reaction out of anything with a pulse, both in game and here. Perhaps not enough attention growing up, who knows. I feel sorry for you either way, and your perception of fun. But here is the reaction you may have wanted to begin with, you're welcome.

GL and try a little compassion and care out. You'll get more in return in life. If those aren't your cup of tea, and you're just a completely unempathetic soul with no chance at happiness without ruining others, then my words were pointless to begin with and we can just move on.

(big assumptions from one post, but you said a lot with a little there)

But seriously, did you save a replay of that match? If so, you should upload it and share it with us. It sounds like a fun watch.

When I play my DS, I am usually doing something else (watching TV, playing Hex, etc) if my opponent wants to no longer fight, I'm totally OK with letting the timer run out.

Realistically, I'm sure they are also doing other activities as well, but if they don't want to play, they can choose to end the match by SDing.

So, the few minutes aren't that big of a deal to me, and if I know they want to give up rather than fight on, I don't enable that type of behavior by ending it quickly. Never give up, never surrender.

This is actually a cool idea that I'll try next time there's a random lag spike that doesn't involve the opponent leaving. On another note, ever since I started using Duck Hunt a lot more, I've noticed that people seem to quit more often. There are some people who quit right as they're in the process of getting star KOd which is incredibly dumb to me as the game is going to be over in a few seconds.

No, I've run out of replay space somehow.

When my opponent starts walking back and forth it usually means they're getting in place for a kill move Bair at the ledge or something. Well that's what came into my head when I read the title :p
