@ texture hackers: Is there ANY way to get Marth's cape transparent?

I'm making a sephiroth texture that would look pretty epic except for that stupid cape which is ruining it. Is there any way to make it transparent? Tried deleting the cape in gimp (I saw the checkers) and that didnt do anything.
