Technical Question -- Projectors?

Hey all, I am going to be hosting a tournament soon and the venue I am going to be hosting it at has a projector. The only issue I have with using a projector is the framerate to input lag.

Do projectors work relatively well with inputs under HDMI compatibility, or are they noticeably different? This is in regards to Sm4sh.

Does it also have to do with the brand of projector? As it is an overhead projector with HDMI in.

We used a projector during school and there was no noticeable lag, it had HDMI inputs and the brand was SmartBoard. Worked fine

Use a splitter so the players can use a lagless monitor while the crowd can watch

some googling suggests that even the fastest projectors only go down to about a frame of input lag. That's not acceptable for any serious competition. You may or may not be able to feel any lag (I've heard that many cannot feel lag below 20ms), but it will affect your frame-sensitive inputs (like perfect shields in smash 4, which are a 3 frame window).

So yeah, grab a splitter and use it for spectators

If you can get your hands on a monitor for the players to play on and a HDMI splitter to connect it to the project it should work out perfectly fine. That's what we do at our venue
