Teching help

For some reason lately I can't seem to ever hit a tech. Whether it's a Falco dair, or a Falcon stomp. I know how to do it, I just can't seem to react fast enough during combos to hit it every time. That, in turn, causes me to miss the next one, then the next one, until I'm dead. Is this just something that comes with time, or am I missing something? It's never been a problem until about a month ago.

Remember that teching is a 20-frame window and the cooldown is like 50 frames o something. I find what often haappens to me during combos is that I close my tech window becuase I just keep hitting L. Hope this could help :)!

I think one problem might be trying to react to it. Human reaction time is about 15 frames on average and after that you may have already hit the ground. Instead, I would try to focus on knowing when your opponents will dair so you can recognize the setups.
Additionally you could hold your controller while watching a match and tech along with one player player. Don't watch pros, watch pools or vods of a small local. I remember LeFrenchMelee has a lot of matches from pools.

I think something that helped me with teching is always being on edge, always being ready to pounce on the trigger like a hungry lion waiting for the kill. Kinda like being really nervous so you jump at the slightest thing, but controlled nervousnesses, y'know?

Be careful that you're not trying to tech while in hitlag from the move you're being hit by. iirc, if you tech during hitlag it won't initiate a tech buffer unless it's on the final frame, but will initiate the 40 frame window where you can't tech again. So if you're close to the ground when you get hit, you can anticipate the hit with a tech, as long as your impact with the ground comes within 20 frames. Otherwise, wait until right after hitlag ends before teching.

Are you trying to press shield when you hit the floor? I always thought of it as pressing shield slightly before hitting the gound. If you press it when you hit the surface it is too late and you will not tech.
