Someone asked a similar question on GameFAQs but I wanted to ask someone here who may have the Japanese version his- or herself or who has a verifiable source of information.

I understand there are team match capabilities in both For Fun and For Glory modes. Now, are teammates randomly chosen or is it possible to team up with someone (either locally or from your 3DS friends list) of your choosing?

I feel like the only way that's possible is through the With Friends mode but I figured I'd ask and be hopeful anyway. :p

Thanks!

I've asked this many times, and it seems as though you can't search 2v2 with a friend.

...which is why most people will never play it.

Not what I was hoping for, but oh well. I think the game will be popular enough to where it wouldn't take too much effort to find 2 more people for a team match.

With any luck, they'll patch it in later, though the complications of matchmaking two prebuilt teams of players of different skill is quite understandable.

Here's to hoping! But if not it's okay. Like I said, it shouldn't take much to find two extra people for a team match.

I'm in Florida and my best friend lives out in California, so that's why I was curious.

It's not understandable at all. It's a AAA title, and 2v2 matchmaking is in question. That's the easiest team matchmaking format possible.

I'm sure the game will be fun online, but there's no excuse for a major game release not allowing people to team up with friends online in the year 2014. It's really aggravating.

A patch would be awesome, but I don't expect it.

Well, just like we discussed in the other thread, Nintendo isn't exactly cutting edge when it comes to their online services. I agree with you, though.

Oh wow I didn't realize that was you >.>
Changed my pic, I understand it can be confusing. I really should settle on one.

Not quite related to the 3DS version, but it's theoretically possible they could work on it for the U version, or add it to both when the U version is released. Besides, as they've shown with Conquest, they're not wholly afraid of putting content in and calling it a beta. Same could happen with team group.

You just changed it again!

That would be sweet if they did end up adding a 2v2 mode like that.

My thoughts exactly. While Nintendo really does seem to be behind the curve when it comes to online matchmaking, it could be pushed as a patch down the road. Just like they patched in the Conquest Mode to the Japanese version.
