In Smash 4, I was thinking that even though it'd never happen, it'd be nice if while playing Team Battles, characters could possibly combine their final smashes if they get near each other and press the FS button simultaneously.

Like, think of Mario and Link. Once it's executed, Mario would use the Mario Finale and light the Master Sword on fire as Link goes in to deal double damage than it would on its own.

Thoughts?

How would it work though?
You can only have one Smash Ball at a time.

Well I have two ideas.

1. In Team Battle there would be its own type of Smash Ball that would only work with two characters, and you'd have to choose between either that or normal Smash Ball.
2. Both characters would have to get a Smash Ball (only in Team Battle mode, because obviously normally one won't appear again until after a Final Smash is used)

It could be a nice idea but the thing is, there are waaay too many scenarios.

Just to picture it, is this was done in Brawl it would have been:

37! Final Smashes

This leads to 37+36+35+34...

You get what I am saying.

Sure, but how would it work? It would need to go into different Final Smashes. What about characters that have a transformation?

That's why it's just a concept, not something I'd actually expect to see.

Well if you read the Sonic and Mega Man World's Collide, Mega Man has a super form powered by his Super Adaptor and Sonic's Chaos Emeralds. So, that's a possibility there. As for Yoshi's, though... I'd need to be creative with that, possibly have Mario ride him and eat characters and spit them out sort of like fireballs, (An example is NSMBWii and NSMBU when you eat a piranha plant)

All right, I like to test this.

How about Mr. G&W and Captain Falcon's Final Smash?

That's a tricky one. Maybe Mr. G&W could hold the characters with his tentacles and Falcon would use the Blue Falcon to flatten them. Or perhaps Octopus G&W could toss characters at you as you use a powered up Falcon Punch?

While I fully support the idea, I just can't see Sakurai taking the time to implement this mechanic that would rarely ever be seen in normal play. If it were implemented though, I think that it would have to follow Ulti-Bman's suggestion that it only works with certain combinations. It could apply to characters who have good chemistry in their own games, like Mario and Luigi could use a bros attack from the RPG games.

Chopper Bros from Superstar Saga would be quite interesting to see

That would be fun... maybe Ganondorf can turn into his Beast form, then Marth hits, then Ganon attacks.

As cool as it would be, it seems far too cumbersome to do this with a combination for every two characters. Perhaps if they were more like the team attacks in the Rival Schools games. I think those had a few preset special attacks for team fights.

Yeah that's much more likely

I'm sorry, I just had to comment on this.

1. Factorials don't work that way. 37! would be 37*36*35.*..*1.

2. It would be all combinations of characters, so 37 * 37 = 1369 final smashes.

Either way, way too much work for a mechanic that I assume most people turn off anyway.

Sorry, I had to look it up because this was going to keep me up all night otherwise.

The equation you actually have to use is x(x-1)/2, to account for repeats. That makes 666 unique combinations (:surprised:) plus another 37 if we also say that two people playing the same character produce another final smash combo, for 703 total. But that's still a lot.

Please don't hurt me

Yea my bad, I mean to do summation, not factorial. It would still be 37 + 36 + 35 + 34... etc

Maybe you don't need to account for doubles, because 2 links could combine their attacks to one super link attack. I guess you would still need to divide by 2 though, since the order doesn't matter...

Nah, I think Egg has it correct. (37*36)/2 or (37*37)/2 if you say you can combine the same characters.

Love how this became a math thread.

Thats the summation mathematical formula. It is equal to what I wrote.

Just like 2 * 3 = 2 + 2 + 2

(You wouldn't think people would just start doing summation of 10000001 by doing 1000001 + 100000 + 99999 would you xD)

:p.

But yea the point is that it is a lot of Final Smashes

Yeah, your right. (37*37)/2 is the same as the summation starting at 37. Although, if we were not goingo allow a double smash from the same character it would the the summation starting at 36, but that is still too many smashes.
