And by that I mean, is there any way to be able to tell when someone doesn't/won't have their doublejump while recovering?

It always catches people off guard when they are thrown offstage and they dont get to jump before their recovery, but I haven't been able to identify the exact cause. Do you only have to hit them out of their recovery? Or do they have to jump first, use recovery move, and then get smashed?

Many thanks.

Stop
Pass English.
Repeat.

OK, if I'm getting this right...
If you hit your opponent after they use their aerial jump when they are on stage, then they won't be able to use it trying to recover. Some people forget they spent their jump and are caught off guard and wonder why they can't jump.

Hit them after they use it up, and before they land, and it will be negated. I have to put up with it everyday, being a Yoshi secondary.

When every character uses their double jump, a ring appears under their feet which signals that the character has used their double jump. The key to determining whether your opponent used their double jump or not is to look out for said ring. If you had not see the ring the entire time he was in the air, he most likely still have their double jump.

People who try to recover without a double jump, fail, and wonder what happened to it usually find themselves in that situation because they were trying to mindlessly mash jump to get out of a combo and they still got hit even though they double jumped. So they find themselves off the level and unable to double jump back on.

Nothing you do can forcefully consume an opponents jump. If Diddy uses his double jump off-stage, Pit's arrow may catch him right as he starts it, or catch him with enough hit-stun that Diddy falls past his original height, effectively negating the double jump. Pit would have 'burned' the jump only in the sense that he countered its effect. No matter how many he arrows he sinks into an opponent offstage, their jump will remain secure until they choose to use it.

Fast-fallers in particular have to be very careful managing their DJs.

RUINING EVERYTHING WITH EVERYBODY ELSE
I burn your jumps by hitting you and theres nohting you can do about it
No really though it's actually pretty easy to spot when people lose their jumps out of combos and things and if you're talking about not using up bs or not being edgeguarded and losing it or something
It's often deliberate in comboing someone to let them drag to the end of hitstun when continuing it since DJing out of hitstun is a pretty highly common and beneficial action and catching someone in a split moment after hitstun ends can often have them use it without going anywhere or even knowing it
Tiz a mindgame
Like screwing up peoples LCing to get them killed
