Ok this is a weird question i've had for some time, but i've always wanted to know.

Has anyone ever paid taxes on the money they won from smash tournaments? I would imagine in underground events the money just goes under the radar but I wonder if for a big event like MLG or something whether or not they had to pay taxes on the checks they won.

Just don't report it. I don't think that any of those organizations issue W-2s or anything like that, and if you don't report prize winnings then Uncle Sam has no way of knowing.
