Luigi's taunt in melee was the only one that did something (I mean could do something other than just leave you vulnerable and annoy opponents). I had a neat idea I think about taunts doing something other that just taunting the other players. For example, Young Link's taunt in melee was the classic lon-lon milk drink. That could replenish a couple percents of damage (actually I'd make it only 1 damage every taunt). And with four taunts available, and apparently customizable, I think this would be a cool little add-on. Maybe even some could be like show-offy moves that can physically do something.

They wouldn't really be taunts if they were useful, I think.

Well, I did meteor smash someone with a wavedashed Luigi taunt once...

Heh, I guess that would actually be okay. I'd prefer it if you could taunt-cancel, though. It wouldn't count as a taunt unless you finished it, but if you taunt, you can cancel it. It might be a part of mind-gaming.

But then again, the whole point of taunts is that you can take the time out in the middle of a match to insult your opponent, and there's nothing they can do about it.

If taunts actually did something that would make them more of a attack/technique.

Trust me, taunts are good they way they are. The fact that they do absolutely nothing but leave you open adds to the insult. It wouldn't be as bad if you knew that the guy that just killed you was taunting for a reason other then to piss you off.

Besides taunts do something already. Its a excellent mind game against the ones that are foolish enough to get mad at a taunt.

I think they should just leave the taunts as annoying and useless as they are.

Don't fix something that isn't broken.

Now Metaknight...that's something that needs to be fixed.

Yea, Luigi's taunt sure was helpful.. thats how I won MLG tournies, by just spamming his taunt.
lol but seriously, it would be cool to see other player's taunts doing something else, like heal one percent or something, though the fact that Luigi's taunt was the only one that actually did something made him pretty unique.

HHHIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!...:)
THAT CURSED WORD!

(lol I played my sister on a 1 v 1 stock match once.)
Me: so what do you want me to do?
Sis:We both use kirby's taunt and see how long we can stand it.

I didn't last 2 minuets before I had to smash her off the stage with a hammer.

Back on topic: well, I think we should keep taunts as they are.

Taunts doing something? Sounds kinda like you're just talking about Street Fighter Third Strike's taunting system, like Fizz was saying about Q. Each of the characters had taunts that could do something, like power up stats and such. Some of them could actually hit the opponent, like Ken and Yun. It'd be interesting to see taunts do something, but there's no real need for it. It's kind of like adding ironsights to an FPS. Ironsights are a luxury thing, and as useful as they are, one could simply just add a zoom feature to the guns. You get the idea.

Nah, taunts just add flavor to the game, they shouldn't do anything, unless it's auxiliary, like Kirby. That was actually really smart to map his "eject power" button to without sacrificing something else.

in the smash blog it suggested that taunts could make an item appear.
i think that would be cool, to just have an item appear every time you finish one full taunt

I think they should just remove taunts and give characters 4 more special moves. Thats the best, no one will deny it.

If taunts are a way of communicating bad trashtalk one liners to my online friends that is all the functionality I need for taunts.

I like taunts that are cancelable. That way you can start to taunt and then you're opponent with think "oh he's just taunting" then you procede to surprise him. If they know it's cancelable, you can also throw off your opponets train of though by them thinking "It's a trap!". I'd like it where you can just do any action out of the taunt (as if you where standing).

I guess I'm in the minority since I actually enjoy listening to Kirby's taunt. :chuckle:
Oh man I could watch Kirby taunt all day.

taunt1 /tɔnt, tɑnt/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[tawnt, tahnt] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–verb (used with object)
1. to reproach in a sarcastic, insulting, or jeering manner; mock.
2. to provoke by taunts; twit.
Enough said. Taunts would be nice to have an extra feature, but it doesn't fit the description of a taunt. Sorry buddy.

Um, when did video games start using dictionary definitions to define the game play?

...Well I guess that wasn't accurate then, considering Sonic Riders uses "Air" as fuel and "Turbulance" as waves.
I guess logically it doesn't make sense to me for taunt to do anything other then... taunt.
