Probably playing TF2.
For the past few weeks, ive had to to w/o my task manager because every time i try to bring it up, i get a error message saying "Task manager has been disabled by your administrator, yet I'M the administrator.

so now, the only way i can see what app's,.exe's,etc is by using the cmd, and im not sure if i can close them through the cmd.

my task manager has always been fine, it even works fine on the guest account.

can anybody help?

Go and try to do something else that's privileged. Like go into "Run..." and type "msconfig".

If it doesn't let you in, sounds like you got a particularly nasty rootkit. Long story short: it's a virus that you can never remove. Or at best is a real ***** to remove.

You can try making a new account, but it will probably take the privileges from that too. Besides, that doesn't really solve the problem. The rootkit is doing more than keeping you from using task manager. It's probably storing keystrokes for credit card information.

But first try that msconfig thing, then we'll worry about that! :)

Well, go to msconfig and go to the last tab on the right. It should say "startup" or something like that. Inside there is a list of processes that start when your computer does. You'll probably notice that there's a lot of things that run by default that don't need to, like quicktime. Go un-check anything that's not your antivirus program. (Norton, McAfee or whatever)

Look especially for blank entries in the list. Those are usually viruses.
