Smash Journeyman
Ok, so this is the third time I've tried to type this; hopefully I can get through everything before something happens again...
Presented for your viewing pleasure below is the top eight players according to the placement averages within the past four years (from Genesis to Evo 2013) from the last fourteen essential tournaments; that is tournaments that included at least three of the top five players from this era in attendance. Now that being said this is obviously not a list of players according to their skill and SmasherA being placed higher than SmasherB does not mean that SmasherA is better than SmasherB; it simply means that SmasherA has on average placed better at larger tournaments than SmasherB. Furthermore, to get a slightly more accurate look at placement averages I've eliminated the out liers because they don't represent how a player is likely to do. So for example if you "Bestsmasherever69" attended Pound IV, Pound V, Genesis 2 and Impulse 2012 and earned the placings of 4th, 9th, 25th, and 1st respectively then your results from both Genesis 2 and Impulse 2012 would be omitted giving you an average placement of: 6.5 (instead of 9.75). Good job "Bestsmasherever69" that is a fantastic average! That being said if a person attended less than three tournaments then they couldn't properly be included in this analysis (sorry Javi), because there's just not enough to go off of.
Fun Fact: No one among the top five attended all fourteen tournaments that were analyzed.
Less than Fun Fact: A person placing at least 25th in any of these tournaments and then placing lower than 25th at any other tournament made this process frustrating... I hate you (Nah, just kidding.)
The tournaments that were analyzed for these rankings were: Evo 2013, Zenith 2013, Apex 2013, Zenith 2012, Apex 2012, Impulse 2012, Rom 4, Genesis 2, Pound V, Rom 3, Apex 2010, Pound IV, RoM 2, and Genesis.
Now without further introduction, here is the top 8 (subject to change, results not yet 100% verified)
TOP 8 PLAYERS OF THE LAST FOUR YEARS
8. Wobbles
Average Placement: 7.66
7. Hax
Average Placement: 7.54
6. Shroomed
Average Placement: 5.66
5. Mew2king
Average Placement: 3.90
4. Dr. PeePee
Average Placement: 3.18
3. HungryBox
Average Placement: 2.81
2. Armada
Average Placement: 2
1. Mango
Average Placement: 1.88*
*Results where ScorpionMaster was in attendance were omitted from this analysis. Otherwise Mango's average placement would be 3.72. Making the list 1. Armada (2) 2. HungryBox (2.81) 3. Dr. PeePee (3.18) 4. Mango (3.72) 5. Mew2king (3.90)...
Final Fun Fact: It's scary to think that if Armada had not attended Evo 2013 his Average Placement would have been: 1.6 over the course of four years (that's frightening)
Disclaimer: Just to reiterate for those of you who just scrolled down to the list "the results are subject to change, results are not 100% verified." Also, I did not check every single player that was in attendance for all fourteen of the tournaments (because I'm lazy like that) but if you would really like to know the average placement of a player (according to this system) feel free to let me know.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Let the salt fest begin...
