Yesterday was prom night for my school. I refused to go, regardless of the fact that I'm a senior. Two and a half hours of standing around wearing a dress I don't want to be wearing doesn't really sound fun. So what did I do?
Let my inner thrill seeking self have a blast.

Mason, OH had a 45% chance of rain, so I almost didn't go. Weather people were wrong, it was beautiful out all day. I got to Kings Island and inside the park at probably 10:30 am. Wasn't very packed, which meant relatively short lines.

The Racer
Two weeks ago I went on opening day, but didn't get to go on the Racer. This time, I decided to go one whether or not the blue racer was running or not. It wasn't lol
One of KI's four wooden coasters, the Racer is often credited for reviving wooden coasters, and for sparking the second Golden Age of Coasters. In the 1982 season of KI, one of the trains was turned around to make up for the frequent closings of the Bat. It was only supposed to be for that season alone, but the popularity of the backwards train led to it being that way until the 2008 season. Now they both run forwards. In 2007, the Racer became a landmark coaster. You can get directions to it on google now lol
Like all wooden coasters, the ride is a bit bumpy but very tolerable. A really good coaster to start one of my craziest visits to Kings Island. I'd go on this again and again, all day.

The Vortex
My first ride on this was at Fright Fest last year. That also happened to be the first time I was on a coaster with inversions. My friend who went with me, Ashley, decided to tell me that someone died on the first loop. She had the bright idea of saying this when we were halfway up the lift hill. Such a**hole friends I have <3
I love the Vortex's color theme. Really dark blue with orange accents for the trains, and black with orange tracks for the coaster itself. When it was built, the Vortex held the record for the most inversions on one coaster. I doubt it still has this record, and I don't know what coaster has it now.
Probably my favorite steel coaster. It has a double loop, a double corkscrew, a batwing, and a helix finale. And there's an on-ride photo section on the corkscrew. I bought an on-ride photo yesterday~

The Beast
Several people know about this coaster. It's a legendary coaster and people have come from all over the country to ride it. I saw a group from Texas in line for it. When I asked, they said they came from northern Texas, just to ride the Beast and Son of Beast. Holy wow
The beast is a four and a half minute ride. It holds the number one spot for longest wooden coaster in the world, and has held that record for years. My first visit to KI ever had the grand opening of this coaster's "son", the Son of Beast, which holds the (intentional) second place record of longest wooden coaster.
This ride is VERY rough and VERY loud. There are several parts where you go through a tunnel, and the noise is incredibly loud in them. It kind of sounds like you're next to a plane taking off. Oh yeah, this one has an on-ride photo too. Two weeks ago, when I rode this for the first time, I almost lost my phone on it.

Diamondback
...
Yes. I went on it. It was the fourth coaster I went on. Ashley promised to pay for a souvenir if I went on it with her.
It's 230 feet high. It goes 80 miles an hour. You can see the entire park, and then some, from the top of the lift hill. OMG
I was already scared s**tless to go on this. You get assigned a row to sit on, and I got the first row. The very front.
I named my purple plush snake Dimmy the Diamondback, btw. And I rode this twice. ALMOST went on it a third time but it got shut down :C

Drop Tower: Scream Zone former Drop Zone
I almost went on this two weeks ago, but chickened out. Seven years ago, my first visit to Kings Island ever, I got to pick the first ride and I picked this one. ****, my eleven year old self was crazy.
Yet another record holding ride at KI. It's the tallest(315'), fastest(65 mph) gyro drop in the world. I love it <3 <3 <3
My first ride on it, I kept trying to close my eyes on the ride up, and I freaked out when I could see the parking lot. This time around, I kept my eyes open the entire time and was fine. Probably because I was just on Diamondback.

Flight Deck former Top Gun
Anyone remember the Flight of the Phoenix premade ride from Roller Coaster Tycoon? That's pretty much what this ride is, just a different track design. Despite being a steel coaster, you do get thrown around a bit. There's also some pretty strong g forces on it.
Flight Deck is the last suspended coaster ever built. No others have been built or even proposed since this one. Kings Island had attempted another suspended coaster, the Bat, but that one failed. Flight Deck is the second one, successful after the lessons learned from the Bat.
Out of all the coasters KI has where you're under the track, this is probably my favorite. The line was incredibly short and I could have ridden it probably four times with no wait. But greater rides were calling.

Adventure Express
Seven years ago, I thought this was like, a railroad ride or something. But it's a fun mine train coaster with tunnels.
I don't think AE has any records or anything. It's just a really awesome, simple ride with two lift hills and a bunch of tunnels. I've been on this ride at least once, on every one of my visits to Kings Island.

After seven rides in under three hours, we got hungry. I've been craving funnel cake for years, so we found a funnel cake shack and bought one. So very crunchy and good. After eating, we bought little backpacks to shove our crap in, and Ashley bought shorts. Then we went on Diamondback again. Right after eating. Yes.
We met these girls from Indiana, who went to KI for a choir concert and were now running around to have fun. After riding Diamondback with them, we went on the racer agian, and then to White Water Canyon.

White Water Canyon
Kings Island's only official water ride. It's got tubes that seat six people each, and you cruise down a river, getting splashed and sprayed the whole way down.
One section of the ride has colored tubes that shoot out water. While walking down the exit, you'll see a horde of people standing around little machines that kind of resemble candy dispensers. Instead of dispensing candy, these let you spray the people on the ride, for only a quarter per spray. Best revenge, ever.

After WWC, I don't remember the order of the rides we went on, just which ones. So from here on the only one that'll be in the right spot is Firehawk, our last coaster for the day.

The Crypt former Tomb Raider; The Ride
Two weeks ago, for my first ride on this ever, Ashley wouldn't tell me wtf this ride did until we were already on it. My friends are jerks, I know.
The Crypt is the only Giant Top Spin ride in the world. It's completely enclosed and the room it's in is almost completely dark, with a few lights to illuminate the room just a bit.
I like this ride. You can barely tell which way you're facing, though the wait is ridiculously long. Understandable, since it's right next to two of the most popular rides in the park, Diamondback and the Beast.

Back Lot Stunt Coaster former Italian Job; Stunt Track
One of KI's launched coasters, this ride is pretty fun. It has a lot of sudden turns and starts off with a tight helix. Near the end of the ride, there's a section that's completely enclosed and dark.
Again, a ride that doesn't really hold any records. It does feature a lot of special effects, though, like pyrotechnics. Everyone loves fire, right?
My "friend" Bryan went on this last week, and said he blacked out because of a sharp turn on the ride. When I went on it, I kept wondering where this sharp turn was. There is none, lol. Sudden turns, yes, but no sharp turns.

Firehawk
Anyone who went to Six Flags Worlds of Adventure between 2001 and 2006 would recognize this ride. It used to be operated there, under the name X-Flight. It got moved to KI, repainted red and renamed Firehawk.
Firehawk has a lot of awesome ride elements. It's got a (really big) loop, a horseshoe turn or two, lie-to-fly, a 450 degree helix, and a double inline twist(lolbarrelroll) at the end.
The seats are a little uncomfortable until you get past the lift hill(which is very loud), and then you're turn around and fall down the first hill. I adore this ride. It's just like you're flying~

Sadly this was the last (real ride) of the day. It was about 9:40 pm, so I wasted the last 20 riding the merry-go-round.

I can't wait for my next trip to Kings Island. I want to go on Diamondback and Firehawk again.

That was a fun read. You're lucky that you live near King's Island, I love amusement parks. Roller Coasters in particular. But I live in Tucson, and as everyone who's ever been to Tucson knows, there is freaking nothing to do here.

Planning my next trip to KI. It'll probably be May 23, when Boomerang Bay opens. I want to drag someone with me but I don't know anyone close enough to drive to Mason.
