Taking a Poll for a tourney in Des Moines, Iowa

Hello guys/girls,

I was going to have a tourney at the Polk County Convention Center in Des Moines, Iowa on Nov. 17, 2007 and the lady called me and wanted to know how many would be coming to the tourney. So, I decided to make this thread to see how many people would like to come and after I talk to the lady and make sure the date is confirmed I will post stuff for the tourney and ect., but for now, I'd like to get a estimation on who would come. Thanks.


I'll call the lady on friday and tell her theres a tourney this sat. and I'll ask and see how many people came to this one and I'll call her monday and let here know.

Well, its going to cost $250 to get a place at the Polk County Convention Center and they want to move this tourney to Hy-Vee Hall Center and that cost $350 and thats a little to much for me. This friday I'm going to ask a friend a favor, because he moved into a house and they have the basement to them selfs and I'll see if he wants to have a tourney there.

Ok so I'm going to hold another tourny at InPlay and im not sure what the date should be im thinking Sep. 29th or maybe something in October but that might conflict with Dubuque, besides that though sometime in November I guess

November would work better for me... september is pretty crazy, and like you said, Oct. is our tourney.

but your tourney is the first week of october... theres no reason there cant be one at the end of october or something...

Well Oct 6, or Nov 10th or 17th I cant do Nov 3rd, or another saturday that a lot of people could do

Two weekends in a row is generally bad for me, so not Oct. 6th... you should also try to plan it around SMYM8.

The Polk County Convention Center...do you get to use the huge (and I mean gigantic) main room for the tourney, or would they force everyone into one of those smaller rooms? Which one costs the $250? I'd be shocked if you got the main convention space for that cheap.

And yeah, Hy-Vee Hall is just outrageous.

This is the update so far. We are aiming for this date, but the problem is finding a venue. Me and MTKD are going to check out the Family Fun Center this Tuesday, so Me or MTKD will give u the more updates then.

Ok, we have an update, but its not pretty. Since they are very busy on Sats. (Just so ya know its FFC in Des Moines, Iowa), they said after they close on Friday at 10 PM we can come in and have the food court to our selfs for the tourney for the whole night till sat. morning. It would cost $5 per person to get in and then $10 for singles or $5 if you'd rather and then $20 per Team. But I didn't know if anybody would do a STD. I was thinking we could cal the tourney STD and then when someone gets tired they can fall asleep and we would wake you up when we have to leave. Would anybody do that if not then we'd have to find another place.

an overnight tournament? that actually sounds like a really cool idea, i havent ever heard of that being done lol... i say you should do it, for sure. like have the tourney start at 11pm and it will be like sleep-over smash. too good!!

something as innovative as that... could make your tournament more interesting then others :o

I am not sure i'd like to stay overnight at a place like that, but I'm down for a tourney in town.

The FFC would let us sleep there? That would seem a little....outrageous even by a gaming center's standards. Who would watch us? Wouldn't we needed to be supervised incase we do something "Bad" so to speak?

Im sure there would be an employee or two there we wont trash the place anyway and yea overnight tourny sounds too good

I'm not sure about the supervising part, but I could be watching out for things. They'd probably have someone not sure. I could call and ask the guy. About the sleeping, I don't see why we couldn't sleep on the floor, like have a few people stay up and play while others sleep, but then I call I'll ask.

i just wanna go to a tourny and see how much i've improved since the last one..

i've been playin alot lately and hopefully won't do as bad as the last tourny... getting pretty much last place
