Let me start by briefly mentioning Street Fighter. In the mid-late 90's, a gaming magazine (I think it was EGM, not sure) printed a doctored screenshot of Street Fighter II. It showed Ryu fighting an unfamiliar character that the magazine claimed to be Ryu's teacher. Apparently, you could only fight him by defeating Bison under certain conditions. The entire thing was a hoax.
BUT. . .
A few sequels later, Akuma was introduced. A character related to Ryu's teacher, who appeared when you beat Bison in a certain way. Basically, Capcom turned the hoax into reality. (Well, virtual reality.)
Now harken back to an April Fool's joke by another gaming magazine. It posted doctored photos of Sonic fighting in Brawl, claiming that you unlocked him by completing an obscenely difficult task. Again, total hoax.
Now fast forward to October 10. Who's that handsome devil turning DK's babymaker into fleshy confetti?
So where am I going with this needless background info? Recall the melee hoax. It claimed that by beating Cruel Melee, you could play as Sonic. . .
. . .And TAILS.(I think you see where I'm going with this.)
Personally, I'm mildly pro for Tails in Brawl. I am a Sonic fan, but that doesn't mean I want Shadow angsting up the place, nor do I want to find the computer room. Tails is a little better, since he doesn't talk quite so much. (Plus, I like giant robots.
)
Tails has the hoax going for him, as well as the fact that SSB doesn't have a lot of air-combat themed characters. He also has some interesting moveset potential. Aside from the flying and demi-Sonic speed, he could also have some interesting moves involving items. He is, after all, an excellent engineer.
On the con side, however, is that fact that Tails is less popular than Shadow (For some inexplicable reason.). Also, Tails could potentially be a Luigi-esque clone of Sonic. And of course, he'd be taking up one of the coveted third-party slots.
