In brawl, mario could perform a move known as the cape glide, which involves running off a platform/ledge while using his cape at the right timing to propel himself forward. Swordfighter can do something similar with reversal slash, as shown in the gif below.
Like the cape glide, the distance you travel depends on when you use reversal slash and you still keep your second jump and recovery move.
You could use this to gimp recoveries a little bit further offstage. I found it easy to pull off if you set the right thumbstick/c-stick to special.
