sword plant lag time cancled?

I was practicing teching and I accidently did a sword plantright before I hit the ground I hit R I think and I rolled. Can you tech out of moves or is this something new?

I think if you cancel it into the ground before the sword comes all the way out and positioned it auto-cancels.

well before the hitboxes come out it will auto-cancel.. so you could make it look like you're going for a delayed SH-Dair and BAM! hookshot when your opponent comes in to punish lag...

but other than that, I can rarely incorporate it because it just always seems like I have have better options

so it might be best to just keep that in your bag of tricks and pull it our on a friend when you got some money (or pride) on the line
